Starting January 18, 2007, at Noon at the Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas, NV.

Put your best to the test at the Palms Thursday Blackjack Tournaments. Starting January 18th, and occurring every Thursday*, $120 buy-in and a $50 re-entry will get you into one of the most exciting Elimination Blackjack tournaments around.

It is planned that the final table will receive cash and the winner will also receive a $2,700 seat** to the main event in April as well as cash. The prize pool will be based on the number of entries and re-entries.

The main event, the Palms Blackjack Classic, will take place April 20 and 21, 2007. Think you can handle it? There's only one way to find out...

    Date Event Buy-In Time
    JAN 18th UBT Tournie $120 + $50 12PM
    JAN 25th UBT Tournie $120 + $50 12PM
    FEB 1st UBT Tournie $120 + $50 12PM
    etc.

    *Until further notice.

**Provided the prize pool is at least $2,700 or more.

Sounds like an extra tournament to play in during the week of the WSOB qualifiers, (extra tournaments are always a good thing...LOL).

Just have one question, I noticed the ** must have $2,700 or more to win the seat for April. I can understand that, but what is the payout schedule if they have more than enough entries? What is it if they don't have enough?

Is it a winner take all event?

I am more than willing to try it out while I am out there, (possibly winning a seat for April). I just hope they are paying more than one place in the tournament.

    Questions

I tried to call The Palms and got transferred four times until I got voicemail. Somewhere during this process I was told I might have to stay at The Palms to play in this weekly, but they weren't sure.

I love this thread and love the information fgk42. Finally, we can just about all get into a tournmanet where you don't have to chuck over at least $1000.00+ of your hard earned money. I really don't believe in pros for blackjack. Anybody can be beat on any given day and time. I am even getting sick and tired of WSOB and UBT because it seems as if the little man is not getting in. My thing is is that there are many people I've met that can count cards and use basic strategy, however, they just can't get to these tournaments because of time and money constraints. Many other people have obligations as well to their families. I have been playing blackjack for about three years now and now every hand by heart. Always sober when I play and never get swayed away by crazy antics at a table. Yet, when I see that you have to spend so.......much money to get into a tournament just shuns me off. Peace. Once again, thank you for the advice. You will see me more in these forums from now on.

The "little man" DOES get in

Ohhhhh, man, you're wrong there. The little guy can - and does - get into UBT tournaments. I'm a walkin' talkin' poster boy for that, having played my TV final table this Sunday. And it cost me exactly $0.00 to get that seat. I can also tell you that being able to count cards will have little to do with your success. Simply knowing basic strategy will help a whole lot more than counting. The strength in this game is your betting strategy, period.

Unfortunately, I am contract-bound to keep silent about the results, as are all players on the show.
I am not unhappy with my performance, however.

What I would like to know is how many actual bodies were at the Palms Thursday event. Saying 98 with re-buys does not give me that answer.

Now Hollywood, don't read anything sinister into this inquiry. I just want to know.

Not sure about last week, but...

With all the players going out for the WSOB next week I'll bet next Thursday has a bigger attendance then this week.

I know several players who are talking about playing the Palms UBT qualifiers while they are out there.

Well with a final table prize pool of 7550 for a 120 buy in I personally don't care how many BODIES there were.

    First place PAID - 4850.00.

    Great? NO!

    Good start? - Most definately

I agree with TX - with most of the WSOB participants in Vegas already next week should see a rise in attendance!

You should want to know this. First the number of bodies indicates how successful it is. Next it gives an indication of how many re-buys are available. If you are traveling a long distance then it's nice to know that your probability of getting a re-buy is good if at first you don't succeed. With re-buys and depending on the tournament structure, your chances of advancing out of the first round are increased. If you have a lot of bodies (which means more interest), then there are probably less re-buy opportunities and your probability of advancing goes down. A lot of bodies - good for UBT. A lot of re-buys - good for the players that are there.

Anthony Curtis' Las Vegas Advisor (Feb, 2007 issue) had a writeup on the Palms UBT minis. However, he didn't mention any attendance figures. Has anyone played there since 1/25/07 (we have the 1/25/07 numbers from another thread)? And how was the attendance?

    No attendance numbers, but...

I talked with Norm S. yesterday and he told me that he made the finals last week.

For 5th place he won around $150, to compare with the figure I posted while out there for the WSOB, I made $254 for 7th place, so I would say the attendance has dropped off some.

I did ask, but all he knew was it wasn't a sell out.

There was only 19. Probably because of the Ok. state open. On Feb. 15th there was 30.
