Hi Everyone! After lurking for a while I just registered to join y'all.

This evening I received a telephone call from the Pioneer Laughlin informing me that they'd cancelled the $100,000 blackjack tournament scheduled for June 11-13. I assume they did not get enough players to sign up. Now that Blackjack Confidential is no longer published, I'd guess the word just doesn't get out as well as it used to.
Or, maybe it was the competition from the Flamingo Laughlin, which changed their smaller tournamnet to the same dates just last month. I'll pr'bly try to get a seat in it tomorrow.

Off-topic: Ken Smith, how'd the 1st Qualifier for LVH-MDBJIII turn out?

    Pioneer news is disappointing

That's unfortunate news about the Pioneer event. Thanks for posting the information.

As for LVH MDBJ3, the first qualifier was surprisingly not a sell-out. In fact, at the wild card drawing for BJ2, Les announced that they had only 85 or so entries so far. They capped the size at 120, which eliminates round one. I believe one key factor in the low attendance was everyone's belief that the event would be full because of the travel convenience factor. Ironic, eh?

The monthly qualifier was won by O.V. Roskey. I'll be posting the final five hands, and also the final five hands of both of the Super-Minis which took place at Fitzgeralds this week. (They both ended up being $540 entry fee events, but expanded to 54 players.)

I failed to advance from round 1, so I'll be returning to the Hilton sometime for another shot.

    Well I am not surprised

You are right, they were going head-to-head with the $99 entry Flamingo. These tourney directors should get together and do a complimentary schedule.

Also, the website had two nights and the marketing mailer three nights lodging. Then they decided to use the new house rules of doubling on 10/11 only, which certainly takes some of the fun out of it.

I didn't pull the trigger on the $500 entry fee myself, but was contiplating it.
