Beginning July 2nd, the President will start having a weekly double deck tournament (dealt to the bottom). $50 entry fee, 2k in non-value chips. Min. $5, max. $2k. Three qualifying rounds with four tables. Up to seven per table. Maximum 84 players. Two advance. The semi-final round will have four tables and four "wild cards". One advances from each table with one "wild card" for a five player final.
    1st 2k
    2nd 1k
    3rd 500
    4th 300
    5th 200

    Total 4k

If it sells out, the casino will be keeping $200. However, since I don't expect that to happen very often, there should be a decent overlay.

Oh yeah, the casino reserves the right to revise or cancel the tournament with prior approval of the MGC.

Walt, thanks for posting the news, how did you hear about it? They don't have it up on their website yet. I've got a few questions for you:

What are the registration and tournament times?

Does this replace their Wednesday tournaments, or is it a separate new event?

Bonus question: Do you get a free buffet or match play coupon with your entry to the Friday tournament?

    Thanks,

There's still a Bj tournament at the President every Wednesday, registration 4-6pm. $1000 for first. The $4000 Fistful of Dollars is being held July 2 and 23. Registration is 4-6pm. There's also free video poker tournament every Thursday, $3000 first prize (sorry Kenny, no Pic'em). register 5:30- 8:30.

There's also Bj tournaments at Imperial Palace every Tue, Weds, & Thurs, Registration $20 entry. First is a % of the entry fees which amounts to about $500 to $600. The downside is they make you eat at the buffet.

    What time on Friday?

Hey Walt (or anyone), do you know what time the President Friday night event is? Registration and play time?

I talked to Walt today, and he gave me these times:

Round 1 sessions are at 6, 7, and 8 PM. Semifinals at 9.

I see I wasn't very thorough with the particulars of the new tournament. In addition to that, I've misplaced the flyer with the info on it. However, we are saved from having to eat their buffet, which is one notch ahead of the IP. In the old tourney, we received a $10 match play with each entry. But I don't recall seeing that as a perk this time.

Hopefully, there will be a good turn out Friday.

So far, this tournament proved to be quite popular, filling up the first week.

I arrived at approximately 5:30 PM, and all the 6 PM seats were already gone, so I played a 7 PM round. I won that, but failed to advance from the semifinals. Somewhere mid-round, I had about $1500 compared to $3000 by a couple of people at the table. I chose to go all-in on a hand where I knew that 3 Aces would be coming out in that round. (They deal double-deck to the bottom.)

I got an (Ace,2), but ended up losing the hand.

Nice tournament though. I'll be back.

    Good and bad.

I assumed from your post that there were about 15 cards left, two extra Aces and the rest of the cards having normal density.
Ken, you may be well aware of it, you had about 11.5% chance for a blackjack, and more chances for winning (about 48%) than losing, which is not a common occurrence. Too bad it didn’t work that time.

It is two-sided sword; It is good to know, you win more, but also it hurts more when the outcome falls outside of the expected.

I didn't know the numbers, but I did know it was an appropriate time to double-up, when I figured I would almost certainly need the chips.

    Nice edge.
