Question: Peppermill or Nugget in June?

I'm trying to decide whether to do the Reno Peppermill Summer BJ Tournamnet or the Sparks Nugget - Ace in the Hole Tournament both
June 10-11, 2006. The buy-in for the Peppermill is $149 and has a $79 rebuy.
1st place is $10,000 with 225 entrants. Tower room rate is $59 a night.
The Nugget will give me no information other than the entry fee is $300 which includes two nights accomodations. Does anybody know (from past experience) what to expect as prize structure. Is there any rebuy?
Which would be the better of the two. Thanks

    Peppermill vs Nugget

    In the past:
Peppermill is a 'total money' tournament format with two rounds' scores added up. (Top 36 chip counts go to semi.) Only then is it an elimination format

Nugget is always a great structure with point system.
    Everyone plays 4 rounds.
1st on table gets 10 points
    2nd gets 8 1/2
    3rd gets 7
    and so on.
4th round winner on each table gets cash prize.

Top 36 total scores go to semi (one winner from each table to the final)

    Good luck

    Two Different Tournaments

I might have to disagree here with Ms. Faye. The Nugget tournament that has a 500 entry fee is a Winner Take All , in that one all player's play 4 rounds and players earn points for all rounds played. The top 6 scores go to the finals where the winner takes it all. The Nugget adds 5,000 to the prize pool giving everyone who qualified for the finals 1,000 making this a pretty sweet deal as far as an overlay and the rooms are included. All their other tournaments in the past that were not the Winner Take All format were a elimination format with two player advancing from the first round and rebuys available . If they have changed their format then it news to me. Rooms also were included with this tournament and all entry fees and rebuys have been returned in the past .

I got an e-mail today from Nugget's casino marketing department. The format and rules are not available yet, but I was told that the entry is $300 and has a rebuy for $150. Room is included. The June tournament is "Ace in the Hole" and I don't think it's a winner take all deal. They stated the last time they held this tournament, first place pay'd 20K.

Nugget Ace in the Hole Tournament

Joe is right...... it is the top 6 or 7 scores to final table not semi. Too many tournaments and altzheimers seem to being affecting my memory.

First is basically winner take all, but the other final table players usually get $2500. That's what I was paid last year.

Ace in hole means that each player is given a goofy piece of paper that is supposed to represent an ace. You choose the hand that you want this ace for your first card. Two hands are dealt from each shuffle. You must use the 'free ace' before the last 6 hands. (40 hands total played.)

    Ace in hole

Now that I have reread Joe's message.............. It's hell getting old..

    He's totally right. Elimination format.

The $2500 was the also ran prizes in the winner take all tournament.

Sometime last year, I really did win $2500 at the Nugget. It just all runs together. I've been in Reno too many times.

The Nugget runs nice tournaments, rooms are good and food is great!!!!!

Peppermill is a total money tournament but it has a great poker room with good tournaments on the weekends.

    Nugget- have rules, will travel

    "Rebuy" Bob says hi!
Played in 2004- pretty sure rules will be the same. Basics: Single deck 30 hand BJT, $1000 in chips rounds 1, 2, #=!%## should-have-made-it-first-round, here goes again... round (rebuy), and rounds 2 &3... jumps to $2,500 for final (just to mess with guys like me who count cards and chip stacks by counting toes), bet range $25-$1000m $50 to $2,000 in finals, fake first card Ace use must be completed by hand 26 or surrendered for hands 27 thru 30. Insurance or even money on dealer Ace, BJ's (Blackjacks that is) pay 2 to 1, DD before and after, split out to 4 on Aces and Faces, not allowed to make pass at dealer (not sure about that one.)
Funkiest situation to adjust to is 2 hands are dealt to each player, cards reshuffled then next 2, etc. until final 4 hands bet in order and one hand per player followed by shuffle, one hand...one shuffle thru to and including 30th. Very tough to keep track of exact # of hand being dealt as I recall but after losing first round due to this problem, I got the hang of it and lost for much better reason as I progressed.
General summary is it's a lot of fun and worth the money to play. Speaking of money, do believe first was $20,000 followeds by $7,500, $3,500, $2,000, $1,500, $1,000, and returning the $300 to players 7 thru 24 seemed only too fair to me at the time. Hope this IS this year's format and that you find the above helpful. "Rebuy' Bob- Seattle
