Boy, this site has been quiet since election. Is that the reason or something else like waning tournament interest? Billy C
There just doesn't seem to be much going on in the tournament world right now. Fewer events means fewer discussions. Perhaps after the new year we'll see a resurgence in activity.
I don't believe the election has any bearing on the activity on this site what-so-ever. In my opinion, lack of new tournaments is the culprit. When a new good paying tournament is announced by most any casino there is often a flurry of discussion about it. When it is run the second time, a lot less discussion occurs. The third and thereafter time it runs there is just about zero discussion. Here are a few examples - not all inclusive by any means: Fitz - Tunica's $75,000 event. Las Vegas Hilton's $100,000 Suited Blackjack event. Horseshoe - Tunica's $250,000 event. Harrah's - Tunica Harrah's group (invite only) tournaments held at many Las Vegas casinos and many times a year. Horseshoe - Southern Indiana. Orleans - Las Vegas. Various repeating events in Mississippi and Louisiana. etc., etc., etc. Since we on the subject of "site activity", I think it's interesting that over 95% (probably closer to 98% in my opinion) of new members never post anything. I don't know why they bother to join other than possibly being able to access to the Calendar. So without new blood, new thoughts and ideas are limited.
Yeah, you're probably right. Let's keep hope for new tourney venues and more "talk" from others. Billy C
Toolman seems to be right. The election results probably have little or no bearing on the activity level here. Look at how much chatter was created when Winstar began those monthly tournaments, followed by the big one in August for the Million. Related posting activity before and after each of those was substantial. Part of the problem is that most of the bigger tournaments are invitationals, and most of us don't get invited.
a little tidbit The BJ tourney at Kewadin scheduled for the weekend of the 14th was canceled for lack of interest. This was to be held at Munising casino, AKA Christmas. Usually 85 entrants, only 32 signed up. Disturbing....very reasonable package and a nice place, small but nice. CP
I disagree. Whether a tournament is open or invite has little, if any, bearing on the discussion of the event in this forum. We discuss a tournament when it is new (open or invite) when several members attend or plan to attend the event then drop the discussion after it has run a few times. I wonder if it's not just a case of not wanting to rehash what has already been said. Similar to a spouse repeatedly telling you that you aren't worth a damn when you already know that - gets to be old.
We looked very hard at that one, but it was simply much too far for us for the prize fund available. 6+ hour drive each way.
Same problem For me. I go solo and even though gas prices have dropped, I can't justify that tourney for myself. Billy C
Trying to get by... Hi Fredguy, I actually posted last night for the first time in a while. Lot's going on heath and personal with me. I'll try to get back ASAP. Looking like next year at the earlest before any tournaments for me again.
Thanks Billy I know I have a couple of more surgeries for sure and than I hope I will be able to get back into the tournaments and seeing all the players.
Well, new gal here (save ya'll from wondering gender), and I'm w-a-y down in San Diego-county (wonder how I picked my name?). And since I'm just getting on the scene with my small Santa Ysabel $800 guarentee tournaments twice a week, I'll be picking your brains about things in a 4hr drive circle of me for weekdays. Vegas is always tempting on weekends when I don't have other commitments. So, new-blood will help you with that "all quiet on the western front" feel here. And I'm not quiet either. Two degrees in talking helps with that.
