Idle misaligned thoughts in passing. Among many other positives, the new UBT has an open entry. No limit of enteries and I presume, up to start of tourney entry. Contrast: Certain casino's offer tourney's with either gauranteed prizes or prizes based on number of entries. BUT, if by the casino's predetermined date enough entries have not been received, the casino cancels or post pones the event. I guess, basing their decision on past experience that the walk up or last minute entries will not satisfy their goal. Contrast: Other casino's set a predetermined number of entries(even figuring rebuys) and once that number is reached....they are sold out. In the first case, why not run the event based on entries. In the second, why not run the event with add-ons and increase the money pool. My best guess is that if it's not in the tournament director's manual of applied tournament procedure, it's not possible. To be specific: I go to register for the advertised Majestic Star 100,000 event three days before it starts and it's postponed, indefinately. Though all the advertising is still up. Then, he who hesitates, is lost, I decide at last minute to try for Tunica Grand and by Thursday evening, it's sold out. But were rooms just sold out, were tables overloaded, not enough dealers, not enough time for more players or just Harrah's? As a side note, I hope that guy from the Chicago suburbs kicks A** at the Grand. It would give me a vicarious thrill.
That guy from Chicago That guy from Chicago made it past round 1 (without a re-buy) but no further. Could have (could have, should have, would have) won round 2 if he made the right play on the last had but did not consider all the possibilities - his ass is still sore from kicking himself. To make matters worse, the person who beat him made 2 mistakes on the final hand but got lucky by beating the dealer. Ya, the guy from Chicago blew it. The Tunica tournament was far from sold out. They had about 40 unsold seats.
toolman1 Sorry to hear your outcome. But, your one mistake against the other's two should have still favored you if the BJ gods were awake. As TX says. Ya gotta get the cards. And cheez, last hand make or breaks live with you forever. And go figure on the "sold out/ Not sold out" I guess it wasn't my day. "Not my day? I coulda been a contender!"
Full As for "selling out" my gut feeling is that the hotels were sold out. I only base that on seeing the hotel(s) parking lots overflowing. Yep, you probably blew $75,000.
ramblings....... Noman, Your idle thoughts however gave me pause and reflection as I try to plan out the remaining part of the year. Living in Florida I must travel to all the tourney's - except TX's cruise which by then was booked and I couldn't make it (excuse the digression) I'm booked for Aruba and have St. Kitts pencilled into the schedule. So basically I'm planning for December at this point. I've seen some WSOB qualifiers in Reno on the schedule. Most of the other tourney's are invite only and they're at places that I haven't frequented enough. I saw where Perchange recently "cancelled" their tourney and the "postponement" of the Chicago tourney - but then I see where it went on afterall. I'm almost to the point where I'll just forget travelling and stay with the online games - especially with over 5 sites coming online by Thanksgiving (BJ21.com/Global/Bet21.com/playUBT.com and presumably Get21.com) I've taken the first step of joining a casino "travel club" where they take care of the flights and invites (for a fee) but the Mrs. is tired of me trying to "find out" the tourney's etc. Personally I'd love to see TX's "tour" get going. UBT - I'll be there but it is so different from regular tourney's that I'm sure that I'll be at a disadvantage from the get go - especially since their site isn't even up and running yet.
