In a previous thread oneeyedjacks commented on my earlier posts: "Thanks for the devil's link. So you down there in the "Valley of the Sun"? You doing another run at the Ute's Prize?" Yes siree, Bob!!! I shall be driving over to Towaoc, Colorado on Thursday the 19th for a second go at the WSOB seat. Snow showers are predicted; but the weekend should be sunny. But I do not reside in the "Valley of the Sun"; I live a mile-high in central Arizona. 4 inches of snow fell here on Sunday night/Monday morning, . . . while I was in Las Vegas, Nevada. Anybody else gonna be there?
We will be there Randy is going to be there and a group of us are flying in Friday night to make the trip up early in the morning on Saturday. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate. Look forward to meeting you. Pat
Who Won the Ute Mountain 3rd Qualifier? I didn't hang around the arena to see who won the "Money Table" on 21 January at Ute Mountain. I know that "Rock & Roll Darryl" made it to the table on a high-card draw; does anyone know who won the table, . . . and the WSOB seat?
Article on the tournament http://www.cortezjournal.com/asp-bi...e=news&article_path=/news/06/news060124_7.htm Charles Montoya wins the seat, but check out the photo of our fearless leader Ken Smith pushing all in!!! Rock on, boss -- -hd.
The good news is that I won that all-in bet. The bad news is that from the button on the last hand I had to bet $4100 of my $4550 to protect 2nd high. I busted that hand. Rock 'n Roll Darrell did indeed get to the final table thanks to a high-card draw between the 2nd place finishers in the semifinals. I left early, but I got the scoop from Darrell later. On the final hand, he had first high and stood with 15 against a dealer 5. The dealer had the face card underneath but hit with a 4 to kill Darrell's chances. Very close.
Actually, rethinking this, I never went all-in. The towering bet I'm pushing into the circle in the photo is my $4100 swan song. If you look closely, you can see unbet chips. The big bet that I remembered winning was only $1400 or so, and it was around half my stack at the time.
Hollywood writes: "Charles Montoya wins the seat, but check out the photo of our fearless leader Ken Smith pushing all in!!! Rock on, boss --" I see in the writeup from the Cortez Journal that the fellow in that photo is "Ken Smith of Las Vegas". But he sure looks like our Ken Smith of Hattiesburg. Oh, just to add to the chagrin that no dedicated member of the blackjacktournament.com community won a seat at Ute Mountain, . . . the winner of the first tournament, Patricia Nicholas (in the photo next to Ken), won on a high-card draw after the Final Table ended in a tie, . . . and the winner of the third tournament, Mr. Montoya, was the wild-card draw into the Finals ! ! !
