I saw this mentioned on a message board: "Riverwind is having a $30,000 poker tournament on March 17 at 11:00am. You can register starting today. Its $300+$30 buy-in. Capped at 100 entrants. There is also a $250,000 blackjack tournament the same day. You enter this by hot-seat drawings." The Riverwind website has no info on this though.
Same tribe and format as Winstar just had... The Winstar casino (just across the Red river from Texas) just had this same BJ tournament. The Winstar casino is the closest casino for Swog and myself and several others and yet the format was so bad we didn't even go try to get in to this tournament. No entry fee is offered to get into the tournament, you must be playing at either one of their blackjack or 3-card poker tables and have them draw the table number and your seat number to gain entry (what they call their HOT SEAT drawings). Should get drawn you win $25 and your name goes into the hopper where every Friday they draw 40 names to win entry into the main event. This will be done for four weeks (first drawing was last night, I was told) and then a final 20 names will be drawn on Saturday 17th to complete the 180 person tournament. *NOTE: You must be there to win. So you basically you have to be wild carded in twice to play into the main event, however you must be playing (with their $ .50 to $2.00 ante every hand to be able to get drawn in). Now you know why we never posted about it before. The Chickasaw tribe (at least the Winstar casino) has the WORST reputation of any casino. They have so many complaints about non-payments and catering to locals (when it comes to drawing it isn't funny). I did talk to a few players who said they kill 8 hours (twice) trying to win an entry into the Winstar BJ tournament, but with no luck. I did call Riverwind and asked about a possible entry fee, but was told NO, players have to be drawn in to play. If you play at this casino normally I guess it’s a hell of a deal, but I can’t see any members from BJT.com traveling to play this format, but if you do good luck.
I called and was given this information on the event.... https://www.blackjacktournaments.com/oldtourn/viewtourn.php?infoID=996&msg=Saved
I was one of the fortunate ones to get a seat in this. I was very lucky as I only had one ticket in the hopper to be drawn. I have only played in one blackjack tournament before and that was years ago. Does anyone have any suggestions on books to read for beginners so I have a chance at this?
kjohnsto, Click on his link for a discussion on tournament books: http://www.blackjacktournaments.com/bb/showthread.php?t=1050 Also, there are some good discussions on starting out in the "Newbie Corner" of the main forum menu.
