Sorry on the delay, the following are the two hotels close to Iron Horse. We worked out discounts with the Travelodge for the September TBJPA/TBT events, however the Days Inn wouldn't give us any discounts. You can however save about $15 by booking there online.

    They are:
    #1.
The Travelodge: Their phone # is 253-833-7171
Mention code: TBJPA for discounted rates.
    Standard room: TBJPA rate = $55.00 - Normally - $79.99.
    Double room: TBJPA rate = $65.00 - Normally - $99.99.
    Suites: TBJPA rate = $89.00 - Normally - $120.99.

    #2.
The Days Inn: Their phone # is 253-939-5950
    NO TBJPA DISCOUNTS AVILABLE
Standard room: Normally - $79.99 *(Note if booked on the internet you can get a $63.99 rate), The Days Inn is not giving the TBJPA a special rate, the original posted rate turned out to only be for Iron Horse employees only!

We will have a limited number of rooms booked until the 15th of September. I suggest you book your rooms early if your coming up to these events.

    Seattle hotels

Which one is the one close to the casino, and which is the one close to the airport?

About the same I've been told...

I've been told both hotels are about 3 1/2 blocks from the Iron Horse casino. And both about 15 miles from the airport (Seattle/Tacoma).

I was also told that they have a shuttle service "Shuttle Express" that can take you to the hotels from the airport and that they are always at the airport. I wasn't able to get any prices though.

Hopefully Thrasht and or Marichal can help out with more information about the area up there.

    Hotel/Motel

Neil Gagg and I had also looked up these venues as a precaution for late nights at the Iron Horse casino, when we may not be able to get back to our British base on Mercer Island.

The room rates seemed quite reasonable to us and we worked it out that it would be less expensive to stay there for the occasional night rather than get a Taxi back to Mercer Island.

Not knowing what the cab fares will be. Are we right on this?

    andy;

days inn is right next to iron horse. with, a couple of more 2-3 blocks away. i believe, iron horse is working on special rates for the event, with the surrounding motels.

no, you would not want to pay cab fare from auburn to mercer island, unless you bring lots of "pounds" accross the pond. (around 25 miles or so, one way)

    Seattle

Us elderly folks would have trouble hoofing the 3+ blocks from the motel to the casino.

Does either hotel offer shuttle service to/from the casino?

    Locations and transfers

Thanks to Marichal, we now know that the Days Inn is right behind the Iron Horse casino (less then 1 minute walking distance) and the Travelodge is about 5 minute walk away.

I checked the Travelodge and was told they don't offer any type shuttle service, it would be either taxi's or rental car if you need transportation from the Travelodge.

From the number of players I have heard are going up to these events, I have to assume that some of them will be renting cars and perhaps for a little help with the rental fee, these players will be willing to car pool to the casino.

I made my reservations at the Travelodge a couple of days ago, with all the TBJPA supplies I have to bring I wanted a little big room.

I am also working on a rental car discount for in that area, I'll let you know what I can come up with.

No TBJPA discounts for the Days Inn

I just found out that the Days Inn in Auburn, WA is not going to honor the $50 per night deal I was told about yesterday. Seems that that special is only good for Iron Horse employees only.

I have edited my original post to refect this. So now it seems like Travelodge is the only TBJPA discounted location at this time.

However I did post about an online discount Days Inn does offer.

    Sorry for the mis-information.

    Car Hire?

I thought that I would put this up on the main thread, as it may be relevant to others on here travelling to Seattle for the tournament.

We had originally discarded against hiring a car to travel from Mercer Island to the Iron Horse casino in Auburn because it would be too expensive just for a 25-mile journey each way.

We have had a quick look on hiring a car and it seems really cheap (inexpensive) to do so.

Can we really hire a car for the week for £114.54 (see link below) or are we missing something?

It seems too good to be true.

It’s over to our guys from Seattle again. Thanks to Marichal and Thrasht etc for the information.

    Andy

PS If we do hire a car. We will do our best and try and pick up Fredguy from his hotel and deliver him to the casino intact :)

the two other motels that are close to the iron horse, are, valu-inn and the cedar inn. they both are a straight shot down the road to iron horse. as stated a couple of blocks or so.

    andy:

without actually looking at the rates for rental cars, your quote looks like a bargain. i believe the cheapest we paid for a weeks' rental was around $160-170 last year. the timing of the tourney will be after the the "tourist" season. which, will help in lowering the rates for car rentals. there are plenty of car rentals at the airport. thrifty car rental (has shuttle), just a mile or so south of the a/p, seemed to have the best rates.

Question is who's going to drive? If you or someone else that is accustomed to driving on the left side of the road starts driving in the US, you could be asking for trouble. Not so much on straight runs but turns and sitting on the left side of the car while driving requires a major adjustment in one's driving habits. Food for thought.

    tex;

was told by robert, (pit boss at the iron horse), last nite, that the days inn would honor the $50.00 per nite that you quoted. he had talked to the owner yesterday. so, my suggestion would be to call iron horse (robert works sunday-wedesday, nites), 253-833-7100

    Thanks Marichal

I called Days Inn yesterday and they were not wanting to deal. I hope Robert got them to change and honor the $50 rate I was first quoted.

I will call and confirm later to day before posting they are accepting the $50 rate.

    Day's Inn

I tried to book on-line for the Days Inn and was advised that "there was no room at the Inn"

Also, regarding walking to the casino, what happens if it rains (or does it never rain in Seattle?)

These hotel hassels might indicate that TPJPA events should be booked at hotel casinos in the future.

    I wish I could Fred...

It would be great if all the TBJPA were at casino properties had built on hotels. Trust me I would love that, I have to carry to many supplies with me and out site hotels just make it harder for me.

However the Iron Horse is really willing to work with the TBJPA and its members on these events and I think a new venue will help draw in some of the regular tournament players as well as all the local tournament players they have in Washington.

Hopefully the off site hotels won't be an issue.

    Food for thought

Thanks toolman1 for pointing this out.

Neil Gagg has driven on the right many times in the USA and Europe and as a non-drinker he will be the designated driver. My role is to remind him to join the road on the right after we have been parked up (an easy mistake to make when you drive on the left). Between us we should be able to handle it.

Hopefully there will not be too many roundabouts between Mercer Island and Auburn because that is when it really does become confusing.

I don’t want to cause any arguments with my American pals on here but would like to point out that it is you guys driving on the wrong side of the road and not us.

    The link below explains why.

Still no comfirmation on the Days Inn...

I called but the clerk still knew nothing about any $50 room rate. I can only assume that the Days Inn management came from working a a casino where important information like this should be passed out and not keep to yourself...LOL

    I'll try back later!

Don't know about roundabouts in Washington but they are not common in most parts of the US.

As for driving on the "correct" side, well here in the US we have little concern about "Jousting Knights". :D

Anyway, glad to hear you have your driving plans set. Have a great time! :band:

It's just a bit difficult to drive whilst holding our swords in our left hand. Automatic transmission helps because it's more difficult to use a clutch when in full armour.

    Nice outfit

Well at least we'll be able to pick you and Andy out of the crowd up in Seattle...LOL

Looking forward to meeting both of you next month.
