This should be a good place for a double header. Both casinos are within walking distance of each other. One starts Friday and the other Saturday so hopefully each can be played without conflict on Saturday. I have entered both and hope to play both.

Deltaduke is talking about the two tournaments being held the end of next month in Tunica.

The Goldstrike is hosting a $100 entry fee on Jan. 27th/28th (starts on Fri. 27th). While the Sheraton will be hosting a $500 entry fee tournament 27th/29th (starts on Sat. 28th).

No format information is listed for either, but with Adoff Lepre (formerly Bally's Tunica) now in charge at the Sheraton, he may use the old Bally's format (Accumulative). If so I wonder if they will add $25,000 to the prize pool like Bally's use to?

I assumed that the Sheraton would be an elimination type tournament. Hope I was not wrong because I will not enter if it is Accumulation. I phoned last week & could not get any information. Hope it will be decided soon.

    Hybrid

    Springbac,

I think both the Goldstrike and Sheraton will be hybrid formats. The first elimination is accumulation, top 30 or 40 something advance to next round which is table winner format. You have to get lucky to get past the accumulation, but if you do, you have an advantage over a lot of players who haven't played a table winner advances format.

I hate accumulation formats, played in one this past week. The dealer busted nearly every hand at the first table, but everyone playing afterwards played against a dealer who managed to make 20 or 21 on nearly every hand. Five of the final seven on the final table came from the one table.

BTW, Deb managed to come in third on the final table! I'm afraid she may take up playing tournaments against us in the future.

    :D

    Congrat's Deb.

Hell Pat why be scared with letting Debra play in the tournaments, she was cashing in in almost every Sit & Go on the cruise. If she starts playing ya'll can double your chances of cashing in at a tournament.

Now as far as the rest of us "We'll have to be Scared" when she is playing against us.

Hope your Christmas and New Years went great. See ya'll soon I hope.

    Old Bally's format

Adoff Lepre just called me from Sheraton in Tunica and he confirmed that he will be using the same format as he did over at Bally's (Hybird - combine accumulative and elimination format).

He also informed me that they will be adding an additional $25,000.00 into the prize pool as he use to do while at Bally's.

Although I am not crazy about this format, it is the best one of it's kind and Adoff knows how to treat his players.

For all those going good luck and if your a first timer at this event I think you'll love because of how good Adoff will treat you.

If you haven't already signed up for the Gold Strike, you may have trouble getting in. I heard from someone today that the 3pm through 9pm rounds on Friday are now full. Players with a substantial playing history may be able to get in a special 2pm round. In any event, you better get calling if you're not already signed up.

Would someone please explain accumulation and elimination hybrid? Thanks!

Elimination refers to playing against just the people at your table to determine who advances to the next round. Normally tables will have 5 - 7 players with one or two top finishers at that table advancing to the next round.

Accumulation refers to having the most chips accumulated as compared to the entire participants playing in the round. If you have 200 players playing in a round, maybe 36 advance to the next round. To advance it isn't good enough to just be first at your table, you have to accumulate a score high enough to be one of the top 36 in that round to advance to the next round.

Hybrid refers to tournaments that start with a large number of players where you play the first round or two in the accumulation format (you versus all the other players in the round) and then it switches to elimination in the semifinal and final round.

Accumulation can involve a lot more of the luck factor. If the dealer is busting a lot you can accumulate a lot more on your bets than a player who is playing at a table where the dealer is making a lot of hands. Generally those advancing in an accumulation format bet big on their final hands and have multiple wins or blackjacks to get their high scores for the round.

Appreciate so much the time you took to provide such an in depth explanation.

Sometimes the easiest concepts to us experienced tournament players are the hardest to explain simply. Hopefully my explanation was clear enough. Your question was a good one. Don't be afraid to ask, that is how you learn and it also helps everyone. There are a lot of new people on this list. When I joined the list about 14 months ago the total membership was less than 700, now we are over 3500 and growing fast. You will find a lot of good information on here. Learn to use the search tool. That is a really good way to look for prior information.

    Update

I made my reservations yesterday and was told that Goldstrike is full, but you can put your name on a waiting list.

Adolf at the Sheraton said that registration there is going well. Over a hundred registered so far. He indicated that according to his records the registration was filling up faster than it did when he was at Bally's.

Two notes: You have to show up at the reception on Friday to get your playing assignments for Saturday. The registration includes two nights hotel accomodations (he said he couldn't guarantee which property it would be at). The Sheraton, Horseshoe (next door) and the Grand (about a mile away) are all related properties, so the room will be at one of these. I may be wrong, but I don't think Bally's included the rooms in the past.

For most of that event's history, Bally's did include the room. For the last year or so, they started basing the room comp on your play.
