It's warm outside now in the mid west (swog: not talking about the NEW mid west:D ) so it's off to St. Ignace for me.

After 4 phone calls, I finally got to the right person to make my reservation. To be fair, they did return 2 of my calls but I wasn't home to receive the first one. They didn't leave a message but I know they called because of caller ID. OK, enough of that.

They are splitting the room reservations between their new and old hotels (motel). Seems like the new hotel is not completely finished. I managed to get into the new hotel (no lake view of the morning sunrise, damn) for convenience purposes. Not sure if the new casino is completed. Guess I'll find out when I get there.

To those that have never been there, for the $250 it's a great deal and the tournament is generally well run. Also, the tourist side of St. Ignace is incredibly relaxing. Makes for a great weekend get away!

Anyone beside me going? DanMayo, Monkeysystem, etc.?

Host It and We Will Come

    Toolman,

My wife and I plan on being there! We have 4 other folks as of right now also planning on making the trip.

When we were up in February they said the new casino was to open in June and that the August tourney would take place in it.

I believe when I met MS at the last Tourney he said they would not be able to make this one.

Your right about the tourney value and it will be a very good time to go, although the October one is also a nice drive with the change of colors.

Looking forward to meeting up with you again Toolman.

    Can't Make It

We're going to be out cruising somewhere in the Atlantic with TxTourplayer. :eyepatch:

However, we plan to go in October.

Does their birthday promotion (if they have one) run the whole month or just the day of your birthday? I forget...

    Whole Month

    MS,

I do believe it is for the whole month. They give $10 in coin for the promo machines if I remember correctly. My wife's is in August and she got it last year.

    See you in October.

P.S. Don't fall overboard and become shark bait! :fish:

    Time is short

Well Dan, looks like just your group and my wife and I. That's just the right number for the final table.:D See you in a couple of days.

    Full Tourney?

    Toolman,

That's ok by me but they do seat 7 at the final table so we will have one extra seat available for BJ Sweetie if she shows. :D

When I called early last week to register I was number 120! I've seen them close it out at 127 before so I'm glad I did not wait until this week to register.

    She you soon.

    Finals

    Hi all,

I made it to the finals, ended up with 3 rd place. It was a 4500 $ win, but I had to pay 30 %, because I am from Germany tax

I will contact the IRS tomorrow and hope I can get the money back! Nobody told me before. I think the casino should have done it. I am a little bet p***** about that!

    Bye, Sirklas

    Incorrect Tax Withholding

Sirklas, you’ve been had. The only way you will get anything from the IRS is to file a US tax return next year. Your beef is with the casino.

You can try to get them to follow the proper law and refund the taxes they erroneously withheld. Here’s your ammunition: IRS Pub. 3908, Gaming Tax Law for Indian Tribal Governments. :gun:

There is a specific exemption to the general 30% withholding for non-citizens. From page 23 of the above cited publication:
By the way, this exemption holds true for all US casinos.

Congrat's Sirklas! Hell after taxes I think you ended up making more on the cruise win (by $50) then up there.

Still all and all you have had a good couple of weeks, congrats again my friend. Keep up the good work.

    Final Table

    Klas,

Glad I was able to meet you this weekend. It was a pleasure to play against you at the final table. Sorry to hear about your 30% withholding.

I was trying to move up from 5th place at about the same time you tried to move, I think around hand 37 ? (of 42). You made yours and I didn't.

But I was able to save enough on last hand for 6th place ($1250)

    I'll be back in October.

    Good job Klas.

Sorry to see Regina and Toolman get knocked out.

    Dan
