I've heard now from several sources that Beau Rivage was flooded. Any other news you've picked up let's post it here. We were lucky in Baton Rouge. My power is already restored.

    Link to Sun Herald paper

Here is a link to the local paper for Biloxi - Gulfport. I am sure they will update their stories and pictures as they get more information. For those who have been in Biloxi and remember the old antebellum homes along the gulf, apparently they are no longer there. Pictures I have seen show the old oak trees with just bare branches if they are still standing at all. Several of the casinos are on the wrong side of the street. Needless to say it will take months before life can get back to any sense of normal for many in the area.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you who live along the gulf.

From the Sun-Herald post at 08:10 CDT, 30 August:
"A revitalized and growing Mississippi Coast had even more to lose. In Biloxi, the mayor said, the storm's surge put at least five casinos out of commission.

Grand Casino Biloxi washed across U.S. 90. Treasure Bay's pirate ship was beached. Beau Rivage still stood, while Hard Rock Casino -- scheduled to open in early September - was half destroyed.

Hard Rock's signature guitar, touted as the world's largest, survived the lashing."

    Other Casino damage?

Does anyone have any other information regarding damage to other casinos in Mississippi? What about Tunica casinos? We've registered for Ultimate BJ Tourney at the Grand 9/16-9/18. If anyone knows the status, please inform. So sad....particularly for those who have lost jobs in the casino business...much less, loss of life. We hurt for those families.

    Tunica situation

I haven't seen anything specifically about Tunica, but the casinos there are on barges in the backwater of the Mississippi river. With all the rain upstream, one would anticipate problems later with flooding possibly in the area. Best bet is to watch for news in the Memphis area. Since it is still two weeks off hopefully there will not be any damage in Tunica and the tournament there will go on as scheduled.

I'm sure the tournament at the Grand will fill up as people move from going to the coast up to Tunica to play instead.

I live in Tunica, played poker at Sam's Town and the Grand last night, there are no problems at any casinos in Tunica or with roads leading to them, Hotel rooms are full due to people that came up from the coast though.

    The Hell with the Tournaments!

People lost their lives, homes, jobs, and personal belongings. Lets worry about our friends and others that live in New Orleans and Biloxi areas before worrying about any damn tournaments.

Come on people GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER! Kitrina ruined more than just a weekend tournament for the people that live in those areas. I feel sorry for anyone that is more worried about their entry fee or airfare then the well being of human life.

Maybe it is just me, but I have a lot of friends (and members here) that live in those areas that were hit the hardest and right now I can care less about my entries.

I understand you're out money and I am sure we will all get reimbursed, but now is not the time to worry about that. Now is the time to pray for all those hit by this disaster.

Of course we are all worried about the people there and the major news outlets are doing a good job of covering the situation those people are in. Many of us make a living at the casinos on the coast however and this may be the best place to share information regarding their status (which is apparently destroyed). I'm glad to hear Tunica may be in business. I've never been up there but it may be all that's left for a while.

cnn.com has a good video interview with a casino worker who describes his casino as "split in half". I can't link to the video but the name of the clip is "Devastation in Biloxi". There is also video from the parking garage at the Beau in that same clip.

Tex, we all feel for the people on the coast but life goes on, my bills don't stop just because of the storm. I am not a wealthy business owner like you. I have to work to pay bills and this means playing poker so I need the casinos. I have taken 2 poker players from the coast into my home since their homes are flooded and they had to come here to work. What have you done to help?

    Don't get me started

First of all p-nut life doesn't go on for a lot of the casualties from the storm, but I was talking about the players worried about their entry fees, airfare and playing in tournaments at the areas hit by the storm.

You go on and play poker every day and night and don't worry about anyone else. As far as taking in two of your poker buddies that will go out with you to play doesn't really do a whole lot for anyone else that I can see.

As a matter of fact I would think that your buddies would want to get back and help the clean up back home. Wanting to run away to go play poker somewhere else doesn’t say much for their character. If I lived nearby a disaster I would want to be there to help out.

As far as for me, I am sure I will be hosting fund-raisers for the victims just like I normally do about 10-15 times a year. Like for Cancer, Lung assoc., Children burn hospital, The Tsunami fund, Battered Women groups, just to mention a few.

Now next time you want to question me PM me or know what the hell you’re talking about, now you just look foolish.

Tex, they are not allowed in or even near the areas as one has the roof of his home about 2 foot below water and the other had his home leveled in other words he has no home only an empty lot. The emergency officials still have an evacuation order in effect, only emergency personal are supposed to there legally. And they are not weathly like you, they have to work to make a living for their family you know things like food, clothing, new shelter just the minor things you rich business owners take for granted. I was just trying to inform you that some people have to work to survive and it is natural that they worry when they lose everything. And I have several friends that work at the affected casinos and now they have no income and no homes. As for a charity event name the date and time and we will be there to support it, please make it soon as help is needed at once not in the future.

If any out of town poker players are staying in Baton Rouge the Argosy casino is open and has a large poker room. For blackjack, I recommend Casino Rouge.

Video has started to come in from Biloxi. It looks like a total loss.

A good story, I was playing at the Beau last Thursday and had about $1200 in cheques, including a $1,000 yellow chip. If I'm planning to return the next week and I don't need the money I usually just take them home with me. This time at the last minute I cashed them for whatever reason. Good thing.
