Now that the WSOB for 2006 has finished being televised, I was wondering what the forum thinks in general. Given the fact that the production needs some tweaking (OK, a lot of tweaking) and there were more announcer errors than is acceptable, what are your thoughts? Personally, I think it was good for BJ tournaments. Yes, there were many bad plays but the underlining fact is that it showed that anyone who gets lucky can win. I think the average viewer who is not tournament savvy may have an tendency to try a tournament as a result of viewing the program. I did not learn much (very little as a matter of fact) but the average Joe may have. Maybe next year will be better. What's the saying - HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL
Very Good I agree with you Toolman that the production could use some help and the announcers made multiple errors. BUT, I thouroughly enjoyed the show and looked forward to watching every episode. I definately think the show was good for tournament BJ and will hopefully attract new players. The best part for me was seeing numerous people I've met and played against in the last year. I was envious to say the least.
I'll catch hell for this, but... I had no problem with this years WSOB as far as the players were concerned, production and annoucers yes. I would have loved to been on the show and had a shot at that $500,000 1st prize. Did I like all the players or think they were all that good, no not really, but hey I made one of the dumbest plays ever last year so I am not going to throw any stones. One thing about the majority of the players were that they WON their way on and like it or not they deserved to be there for that reason. Honestly what was the difference between what we saw on WSOB this year and what we see in most BJ tournaments we play in (not counting BK Knockout cards), nothing! We saw good players and weaker players playing and the players who caught the cards won, end of story! The production problems were really small so that wasn't a big thing either, it really was something that everybody tried to look for problems is why it seemed so big. The announcers seem nice, but they were about the only I had with the show. I hate to rag on them (why I haven't posted much about the WSOB lately), but I would like to see someone different hosting and doing play by play next year.
