If one surrender's against a dealer A, given the BJ is not automatically revealed, after the insurance offer, does one only lose half the bet, or because of the BJ, lose all of it?

Given the above, if one hits to 21 and the dealer turns the BJ, is it a push or loss?

Thanks in advance and I'll try to reciprocate when I can

It depends on the rules. Losing only half your bet if the dealer has blackjack would be early surrender, which is rarely found.

About the only time this comes up is at Global, and there you'll definitely lose your entire bet if you surrendered and the dealer has blackjack. And, 21 does not push blackjack.

    Red River Comanche

I asked a dealer there if you have to wait until after the peek to surrender and he told me you can surrender before the peek. That's early surrender, unless they grab the rest of your bet after peeking and turning over a BJ. I didn't think to ask if that's what they do.

Someone who gambles there should check on this. I don't live in that area; I was just there on a business trip.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that they would have early surrender in Oklahoma, given that the only money they (supposedly) make on blackjack is from fees they charge for every hand you play. Any table winnings are supposed to be returned to patrons. At Red River Comanche they return the table winnings to patrons in the form of a whopper prize in a quartely blackjack tournament.

If they have early surrender you could surrender and take insurance on the same hand. If the dealer flips a T you actually net a winning of half your origninal bet. If the dealer flips something else you net a loss of your original bet. This could be useful if you're trying to get a swing, and you have more than one hand to do it in.

    House rules

At most land base casinos insurance is offered before surrender so it doesn't come into play. However if they don't look for blackjack until then end you would lose your entire bet and get back your surrender money if the dealer has blackjack.

This is the only way I have ever seen it played.

You Really need to check the Rules.....

...of the tournament that you are playing in.

In the $35K tourney we have in St. Ignace, Michigan, they do not offer insurance, period.

But if the dealer has an ace up, they do offer surrender. It is offered in turn of the button and you loose half your bet if taken. This is all done prior to the dealer checking for blackjack. So this would be early surrender.

Now only if we could only talk them into doing this at the regular tables!
