In poker there is Doyle Brunson's "Super System" and Caro's "Caro's Book of Poker Tells". I am new to Blackjack tournaments (have played lots blackjack, just not tourneys) and would like to start of with a good book that is preferabbly easy reading. Any suggestions?
At the moment, there's still only one book that focuses on tournament strategy. That's Stanford Wong's Casino Tournament Strategy.
Some useful stuff... You can also read Ken Einigers book "Play to win", to read s.th. about the basics of BJ tournaments. And I can really recommend the article from Ken Smith, which you can find on www.blackjackinfo.com under the category "blackjack tuornamernts". Hope that will help you for the beginning! CTS is the best It's pretty much agreed that is the current "bible" of Blackjack tournament play. It deals with pretty much every situation you'll come across in a tourney and it has chapters on other kinds of tournaments, too. Very useful and a must buy for anyone wanting to get into serious play.
CTS is good but... ...the strategies and concepts that are discussed and this forum and website as well as the articles on BJI are far more advanced than anything in CTS. My advice is to go through the strategy part of the forum and look at the different threads, they are a mine of information. Ask questions here on the forum, post up situations that you have been in and get a range of opinions on the correct play. Just look at the "Surrender Trap" thread, so much useful information. Join Global Player, the only online BJ tourney site. Really friendly, great practice. Amazingly there are no others!!! If we are lucky we may get another "hand of the week" (come on Joep!!!!). The most useful tip that I have come across is Ken's sig. It's so true. Cheers Reachy A mere mortal
Have to combine everything. I would agree that there are some great strategies here. The best thing you can do is absorb as much as possible and see what works for you. I've been happy with CTS, and definitly think it was worth the buy. While the strategies here discussed are more advances than CTS. You need to start somewhere and for me I found that reading CTS is giving me a better ability to absorb the information I get here.
