Welcome to the new version of BlackjackTournaments.com! Drive it around a bit, and see what's new. There are still several major issues I'm addressing. Regarding the event calendar, adding new events is disabled for a bit until I finish a key change. You can however see the event editing process which will be quite similar. Also, the "Cancel" buttons don't work yet. Working on that. Other items... I see everyone is listed as a 'New Member'. Need to work on that. Plenty to do so I'll get back at it. In the meantime, what do you think?
Looks good so far! One thing I did notice is that some of the content that was outside of the forum itself doesn't seem to have been carried over. I mean the links to articles, tables and so forth (on blackjackinfo, I think) that were available on the left hand side in the old version. (Of course, it could well be that they are here somewhere, but you have cunningly hidden them. )
You are correct, for now. Only the message board content made the initial move. I plan to migrate some of the other content in as pages inside the forum, but none of that has happened yet.
Ken, Thanks for your efforts to upgrade this site, it's a major enhancement upon my initial limited review. From a personal objective the inclusion of other table tournament events is a blessing. Some if not many BJT.com members participate in table tournaments other than BJ and find some easier to cash with correct tournament strategy. The addition of these tournaments on the event calendar is welcomed. Again, many thanks! Rookie
I fixed a permissions problem that was preventing anyone from editing events, so that works now. Note that "Add Tournament" likely won't be available until Monday at the earliest. I'm traveling tomorrow.
I'm currently having issues navigating the new format including advancing to page 2 of the event calendar, also I have no X in the upper right corner to delete the welcome message as posted.
Thanks for the report. What device are you browsing from? I noticed earlier tonight from my iPhone that I had no X to close the notice either. As for the event calendar, it should be loading the entire range of dates you request as one long page. Note that the default range is now shortened to 1 week (and weekly and monthly events are included by default.) Of course you can change the date range to whatever you like, and exclude the recurring events if you prefer.
I believe you should build in some kind of time frame for the recurring events. Maybe 3-6 months after an event has last been updated the system should send an alert to you and the last updater to see if the event still exists. This might help in the long run to keep the events more current. I did notice that you had some info posted from old posts on tournament strategy for other types of tournaments. I don't know how you went about gathering that data, but that is good.
The event calendar is no longer a problem. I have no X to close the notice using either my desk top or Android cell phone.
I also logged in today with my user name and password checking the either "remember me" or "Keep me logged in" option, I don't recall the terminology. The only X option I have on my PC monitor exits the web site. It's not a big deal as I only have to scroll down one extra click but this is basically still in Beta test mode and I feel Ken should be aware of all problem/concerns regarding the new format.
When I first came to the site I also had no X. Couldn't figure it out till I noticed I wasn't logged in. After logging in WALA! I had an X which I promptly clicked and removed the little "Check me out I'm new here!" box.
Ken, I really like your updated site. It's easy to use and fast. It's been years since I've come here. I will be back a lot. It's very informative. casino_jim
Looks good Ken! Only problem I had was that I couldn't "sign up" until I used my OLD email address so I'll be providing you with my new one soon. Billy C
I've noticed a minor issue; one that it may not be worth trying to fix. Existing vBulletin messages that contained references to other threads or posts - using the syntax [thread]nnnnn[/thread] or [post]nnnnn[/post] - now simply contain that literal text, rather than have a link to the target post or thread on the new system. You can see an example at the start of this thread - vsJack
Thanks Colin. All the relevant posts have been repaired. I need to also repair any links to the old event calendar. Done.
Possible problem with the new event calendar ... Today, I updated https://www.blackjacktournaments.com/tournaments/buy-in-blackjack-tournament.1333/ to reflect the new prize pool and entry fee. I also added a new date. The (possible) problem is that all of the past listings for that event also show the updated prize pool and entry fee. It would be nice if the past events were not affected. That way one could see the evolution of the event (for better or worse!) over time.
