Tipping dealers in tournaments?

Okay, so top 6 players get paid (field is usually 35-40). As they're paying out the winners, the pit makes comments about being sure to tip the dealers. One player tipped $40 on a $300 prize payout. I threw in a couple dollars but was unsure of going higher than that.

What is anyone else's experience with tipping in tournaments? Is it common for the pit to make comments like that? How much do others tip? Do you tip more based on how much you won or do you just tip a flat amount when you're in the money?

    Tips

I Believe I Would Tip On Small Tournaments Flat Tip Say 10%
Larger Tournaments Lets Say 1% On 20k Or More
And Yes It Is Normal To Here The Tourny Director To Say Remember The Dealers
The Dealers Remember You And So Does The Director For Future Events :d :d
Even If You Not Make The Final Table I Think It Is Good To Tip The Dealers Anyway

    Up to each player

I perfer to tip $5 for each round I advance (normally). Then I tip after making to to the money round.

Tips vary and there is no set rule as far as the amount to tip the dealers (just remember your not just tipping the dealer at the final table but all the dealers in the tournament and in most cases every dealer on the floor (tournament and regular table dealers). You can use this to figure what each dealer would be getting from your tip.

Anything you give them is nice, but remember if you short them you won't have them back dealing keep tournament. If you want to keep quality dealers dealing the tournaments make sure you treat them fair.

    Here are a few examples:

    I have seen $5 to $50 for a $500 win.

    I have seen $50 to $500 for a $5,000 win.

    I have seen $150 to $1,000 for a $10,000 win.

    I have seen $200 to $1,500 for a $20,000 win.

    I have seen $500 to $2,500 for a $50,000 win.

    I have seen $1,500 to $5,000 for a $100,000 win.

    I have seen $10,000 for a $1,000,000 win (twice).

As you can see there is a good size gap between some of the tip's for each amount won, it is up to each indiviual player what they want to give. For me I look at it more like found money, these tournaments are not my livelyhood, but only a fun hobby which I really enjoy.

The worst thing I ever saw was a player at the Stardust after winning $100,000 and was heard saying "I can't tip them, I have kids at home", if thats the case you don't need to go to a tournament, pay $350 entry with $600 buy-in if your worried about your kids that much.

    My Tips recently

When I won two tournaments at Cherokee Casino in February I tipped 10% and was told I was tipping to much by the other players. I tipped $300 on a $3000 win and $400 on $4200 win. A few weeks ago when I won at Sunset Station I tipped $500 on a $10,000 win and the dealers seemed very appreciative. Especially since they got stiffed by the rest of the table.

Doing the math you can see the first two wins I tipped 10% and the larger $10,000 win I tipped 5%. I believe the more you win the smaller the % gets. I also believe the Karma gods will get you if you stiff the dealers. Yep, it's superstition and yep I believe in Karma. Ask Earl.
