I came accross this book by Stanford Wong, just wondering if it is still worth the read or have the strategies in it have become outdated and still better off reading casino tournament strategy?
Neemo6, The book you speak of, "Tournament Blackjack", is the original version from 1987, whereas Casino Tournament Strategy, which combines many different tournament strategies, was published in 1992. If you want to read about his other books go to the interview section....... http://www.blackjacktournaments.com/Stanford-Wong.php
So are the strategies the same in both books or have they become updated in the '92 casino tournament strategies?
I actually have never seen the original, but I believe the blackjack-specific content in the newer book is much the same. There have been a few additions over the years, including a few new pages in the 2006 edition. However, most is unchanged. The new edition is available from the BlackjackInfo store.
I wouldn't say that book is rare, it was simply the first book on tournament BJ. Stanford produced that book along with others before he decided to combine them all into one. Hang onto it, maybe you can get him to sign it someday.
SW tourney wins Are non existant by his own admission. BC has not read the book and will read it only from library(free). Like SW BC not win but have two seconds. One or two toutnies and you will see all the tricks. Recomandation for SW books:flame: :flame: :flame: em !!!
Hatred can stop one from being a winner BlackCloud: I'm not here to defend Wong but I do like to get facts straight. I believe Wong has won BJ tournaments but not in recent times. If, due to one's playing ability, one is banned from almost every casino on earth, it's tough to enter a tournament let alone win one. After all, wasn't his book on tournament play developed from actual experiences - both his and others? If I'm wrong, let's hear from someone who knows for sure. Wong's CASINO TOURNAMENT STRATEGY has for many years been the only source of tournament strategy in print. Sure it's a little dated but refusing to read it only because you hate Wong puts you at a severe disadvantage in tournament play. You do not recommend Wong's books but why? What books have you read? Is his information faulty? If it is faulty, where? Let's have some specifics.
Value in CTS The strategies may be unsophisticated and out-of-date but it is still considered the bible of TBJ for the time being. Of course when Ken's book comes out we will have a new bible, and it'll be interesting to see what HD's book(s) will be like. There is still value in CTS because a lot of people still use the strategies that Wong outlined and therefore it gives us information on our competitors and helps us understand them. Cheers Reachy Ps. What is it with SW that generates negativity? Others have bad things to say about him other than BlackCloud and I'm curious as to why.
