BJ tourney's are starting at Treasure Island (MN). These are live-money tourney's with a $100 bankroll. Can I get a little guidance and insight on what to expect at a live money event? How much does the strategy differ compared to one with "funny" money?
Depends! It kind of depends on the size of both the buy in and the purse. With a $100 buy in, my play wouldn't change much (if any). Does make it a little tougher to double down hard 19 etc., though! Billy C
Do you have any more details on this tournament? I was at Treasure Island(MN) for quite a while Sunday and saw nothing about it. I found it on their website but it really doesn't have much information there either. I will be up there again Saturday so I'll see what I can find out then.
I posted the little info I had on the events calendar. There is a $60 entry fee, and $100 "live money" per round. They have scheduled three tourney's April 24, May 29, and June 26. From what I understand they had very good live money tourney's in the past, heard that from alot of the tourney vets. They have new management and want to bring back the BJ tourney's. The "old" management claimed they lost money every time they hosted a tourney!
I get the feeling that at this point they are relying on word of mouth to spread the word on this tourney!
I've updated the calendar entries with the information I got today at the casino. Based on the handout I received if you get to the final round it will cost you $460 less whatever you manage to keep/win in the rounds.
This is a little misleading. Yes, you will have put up $460 if you make it to the final table but your cost will be considerably less. If you make the final table that means you won all the prior rounds. Since you won, most likely that means you finished each round with more that the $100 you started with and therefore when you sit down at the final table you should already have more money in your pocket than you had when you walked through the casino door.
True the cost may be considerably less. Granted my experience is somewhat limited but I've seen many tournament tables won with much less than the starting BR. I myself won a tournament table and advanced with $5 after starting with a $500 BR. I don't think anyone won a hand at that table. So, it's at least possible that you could make the finals with close to the maximum cost.
