I don't know about the other casinos hosting WSOB qualifiers, but Tulsa is hosting a very nice event.

I came up here for the weekend and was surprize to see all they were doing for the qualifiers. They have speical WSOB table layouts on all the BJ tables and a section just for the tournaments where they show both years shows on big Plazma TV's during the qualifiers.

I love there raised pit (where the tournaments are held). It is up about three foot with a four foot wall around the outside where players can still watch, but it keeps them about 3-4 foot from the tables.

I would love to talk them in to hosting a regular BJ tournament there. They have about 12 tables in 2 pits in that section (they have another main section of tables as well). It would be an excellent loction to hold a big tournament.

On Friday's qualifier most of the players started off with big bets at my table while I put the min. $50 out. When the dealer busted the first 5 hands I found myself down over 2 max bets to the table and never got much closer. O'well I will try again on Sunday.

    Sunday qualifier

Well Sundays tournament didn't go any better. It started off with the deal busting the first three hands. So once I again I found myself in an early hole.

By betting small I ended up staying in the game and just before the count I was only down $350 to BR1. On hand 15 (count after) I bet $450 (of my $900) caught a 19, but the dealer made a four card 21.

Next hand I went all in and lost, with two hands left.

I noticed the play in Tulsa was very aggressive in both tournaments and they played the same way all the way through the the tournament the same way.

This is great if the dealers were hot, but I happened to get on two cold tables and could never recover.

It is a nice little tournament and worth checking out. Only around 70 players at each of the tournaments. I like the two adavncing from each table through out.

I was thinking of going mid january. Are they giving any special pricing on rooms for tournament players? What was the room like? Dining?

    Rules? Six Deck? Surrender?

    Strategy question

    Rick,

You bring up a good point, when the dealer is busting and everyone else is getting a lead on you, how long should you wait until you try to catch up? Is a max bet lead to late? Also, if everyone keeps pushing out bigger bets, do you continue to bet contrary hoping that eventually things turn?

The same situation happened to me in Atlantic City this weekend. I couldn't get any help from the dealer and when I finally made my moves, I got lousy cards and busted out.

After the dealer busted five hands in a row to start she made a comment that everybody must be happy with her busts and I remarked she was killing me.

    :(

    Table rules

Shay the rooms are very nice and good food. They charge for mix drinks, water, and beer, but soft drinks are free.
However at the high limit room they charge $1.00 ante per hand and the drinks are free there.

Tournament rules are: No more then six per table (most I saw) and two advance from each table in every round until finals. They use a 6 deck shoe, play 18 hands, count after 15th.

No surrender, rules are a little loose on other things like hidding chips, playing with chips, get up from the tables.

They will call you on it if they catch it, but tournament play is new to all the dealers. If you point it out to them they we enforce all the rules.

Pat as far as when to make your move, I like to stay within a max. bet of BR1, but for sure within a max. bet of BR2. Hope that helps.

The Events Calendar states the bankroll is $1,000. I myself would like to go in Jan 06. Just too many things to do before the holidays to go last weekend.

    $1,000 is correct

The $1,000 starting bankroll is correct and you play 18 hands.

NO SURRENDER offered. Min. $50 - Max. $1,000 bets.
Misdeal and the entire hand is dead, so pay attention to what the dealer is doing, (just like in regular tournament play).

    Sometime in January

I will be back in Tulsa sometime in January around the second weekend (13th - 15th). Swog will be going up with me.

I have heard Ken, Pat, J.M., Dr. Bass, and Chips maybe trying Tulsa as well (depends on how they do at other qualifiers).

So far all the qualifiers in Tulsa have been locals, is what I was told.

    Other cherokee events

    Rick,

There are two other Cherokee casinos involved in the WSOB aren't there? Have you heard how turnout has gone for them? I am wondering if it would be better to try one of the other casinos instead of the one in Tulsa. I think all of them are west of Tusla towards the Arkansas/Mississippi border.

Also, are each of them holding their own finals or is there just one combined finals?

I'll probably see you in Oklahoma, but I am still keeping my fingers crossed that I can qualify before then.

    WSOB qualifier Cherokee-Siloam Springs

I've been over there once and played on a Sunday afternoon about a month ago. 21 players showed up, entry fee was $25 with same format as Tulsa except that prize pool was $125/$100/$75. I saw the same type of play as Rick did and was 2 max bets behind by hand 5. The hitch with Siloam and Roland is that there is only one seat between them. There is an extra step needed to gain the coveted seat...after advancing in a weekly qualifer and winning the semi-final, you must play head to head against the Roland winner for the seat. I'm still planning to go back at least once more (hopefully this weekend) and will report back with any updates.

    Cherokee finals

    gflan,

Thanks for your post. I still think there is some confusion on how many seats are being given away by Cherokee casinos. I am interpreting that the qualifiers are being played on Friday and Sundays at all three casinos, but the finals will all be played at Tulsa on Feb 5th. Your post indicates that maybe there is a separate finals for the other two casinos besides the Tulsa casino. Rick indicates that there will be two seats awarded. I wonder if that is for Tulsa or if one is for Tulsa and the other is for the other two casinos combined. I originally thought that Cherokee was giving away two seats at each casino, one to each of the Friday finalist winner and one to the Sunday finalist winner, but the more I read, I am thinking now that they are only giving away one or maybe two seats as Rick indicated. Maybe we can get some clarification this weekend after some more of you play there.

Good luck if you go play, hope you make it all the way!

I think Cherokee has only two seats total

    PT,

In Siloam Springs, I actually picked up a pretty informative flyer for their location. It states that the semi-final for this location will take place Friday, Feb. 3 at 2pm. This is for both the Friday and Sunday qualifiers together. The winner of the semi-final then goes over to Tulsa to play the semi-final winner from the Roland Casino in the "finals" on Sunday, February 5 at 1pm.
Thanks for the well wishes...I'm hoping BJT will be well-represented on the show but unfortunately it sure sounds like it's rough going since most of the qualifiers are designed for "locals".

It's too bad some of the non-Indian casinos didn't pick up a few seats.

    3 total seats

Tulsa is giving away 2 seats, 1 for Friday and 1 for Sunday qualifiers.

Roland and West Siloam are playing both Friday and Sunday qualifiers, but all the qualifiers play against one another and then the two over all winners from each location play head to head for the WSOB seat.

    Room Rates

Are there any special room rates for tournament players?

    There is now Shay!

I just talked to Sal Deleone (table games manager at Cherokee, Tulsa) and if you tell them I sent you (Rick Jensen) you will get a $49.00 per night rate. That is $20 discount per night (that savings will help offset the antes anyway).

When you check in talk to Sal (his office is just down from check-in desk) and tell him I sent you for the discount.

This discount will be good throughout the WSOB qualifiying, (at Tulsa Cherokee only).

Hope to see several from this site there January 13th - 15th.
