It is unfortunate that a number of the larger BJ tournaments have landed on the same weekend. Sam's Town Tunica has announced the 24K Tournament line-up for 2014. May 30-31 Aug 22-23 Nov 7-8 Weekly Blackjack tournament $20 every Friday night except the 24K BJ events listed above If it was just the Operational departments making the decisions on dates, I know there would not be a lot less of overlap for events, but the big tournaments require the merger of hotel/marketing and Pit within the yearly calendar of events. Sometimes the only weekend open is not a good match against other property schedules. Sam's Town Tunica weekly tournament continues to grow with the 3/14/14 Friday night $20 tournament had 81 entries. $810 cash and $500 promo chips for 1st is not a bad return on investment.
I will be there for the may , aug , nov ones . if they have a larger one on the same weekend , I just hope they finish up on sunday , can play both with no problem ,talked to Richard at gold strike he said he would talk to higher ups ....we'll see......
We don't have any blackjack tournaments planned for those weekends. As of right now our schedule is as follows at GoldStrike: April 06,13,20,27 (Every Sunday): $15,000 April 25-26: $25,000 May 26: $50,000 July 01,08,15,22,29 (Every Tuesday): $15,000 July 11-12: $50,000 September 12-13: $30,000 October 17-19: $50,000
I posted all these dates to the calendar. Anyone with details please update them. Here's the Gold Strike upcoming tournament list: https://www.blackjacktournaments.com/casinos/gold-strike-tunica.22/
Thanks to Richard for the info, and to Ken for posting it. It should be helpful to the players to know as many schedules as possible, and therefore should help up the turnout. On the subject of Tunica Blackjack Tournaments, please note that Adolph's next tournament at Resorts is to be held on May 2nd and 3rd. It paid just over $13K (Cash) for first (half the proceeds), and that was his first big one since he went to Resorts so I fully expect it to pay more this time. There were lots of folks I have talked to since that didn't know about the last one. As we've discussed before, this could be a good year for Blackjack Tournaments in Tunica. If we support those casinos who furnish the events it should give them reason to keep them going.
I posted the date for Resorts. An article this week in Jackson's Clarion Ledger paints a pretty tough view of gambling in Mississippi, and Tunica specifically. Revenues are down 25% since 2008, and visitor counts are down a whopping 61%. The article calls these "dire, impending doom-type numbers". Here's a link: http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2014303220041&nclick_check=1
Thanks Ken. I knew it was pretty bad but had never seen the, agreeably, "dire" numbers. There's no doubt there will be some fallout if that trend doesn't reverse itself. There are so many boats there that I am surprised so many have lasted this long. Lots of good folks make a living from them.
And the Tunica market has claimed its first victim. I didn't expect it to be the largest property there, but that's the word. Harrahs Tunica is to close June 1st.
Wow. So quick after your post of just this past Monday. I certainly had no visual crowd gauge of how Harrah's was doing, because I haven't been there since some years before they changed the name from The Grand, but being as big as it is, I too am surprised. I think it was once billed as the largest casino floor between Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Thanks for the post.
Here's a good article from Bloomberg that talks about casinos reaching saturation in many areas: http://www.businessweek.com/article...s-revenue-falls-in-gambling-saturated-u-dot-s With more casinos slated to open in the next few years, expect more fallout. The question for gamblers is will competition yield better offers and games?
We have removed the weekly tournaments in July, just wanting to keep you guys in the loop in case you had plans to come in during that time.
