24 seats unaccounted for This accounts for 16 seats if my simple arithmetic is right. I also noted that all 16 seats will be finalized before the end of Feb.. Does anyone know about the other 24 seats? Will there be satellites beyond February? Could it be GSN's plan to have 24 (a nice even 2 dozen by the way) invited players and 16 "rank amateurs" for the show? After I just typed the last paragraph, I had an thought. Maybe GSN is planning a David vs. Goliath type of contest. Some known seasoned BJ players, blend in some known poker players, then mix in 16 satellite winners (the amateurs). Could make for some interesting TV. I wonder?????
Wsob Just watched a promo for the 2006 WSOB while watching GSN. They were advertising how to locate casinos with qualifing tournaments for the WSOB at their website, maybe too little too late. Although I admire GSN for finally sharing with the world this "Open Event", BJT.com is at least 2 months ahead of GSN's announcement, thanks Ken.
40 seats for WSOB III GSN will have 40 seats for the WSOB III. They tried to sell all of them to casinos around the country, however the ones listed were the only ones interested in hosting the satellites. As far as the other 23-24 players needed to fill the spots I guess they will be selected by GSN. I don't know if that is good for me or not, but I am still trying to qualifiy (like last week in Tulsa). I am sure I will be going to some other qualifiers as well. The Tulsa casino had speical GSN WSOB layouts made up for all their tables and play the show on two big screen TV's at one of the BJ pits. Do all the qualifiying locations have these custom WSOB logo layouts? They really look nice, I sent pictures of them to Ken if he wants to post some of them. Cherokee said it was okay with them as long as their casino is also posted.
Here's the table logo Rick mentioned... These satellites are being held at Cherokee Casinos in 3 locations in Oklahoma.
WSOB Qualifiers a success? The GSN WSOB qualifiers are the biggest mess I've seen since my dog pooped on the floor. I called UTE Mt. today to try to coordinate flights to play there and Lucky Eagle the following day. UTE Mt. according to the 3 people I spoke to had no idea if it would be a 1 or 2 day event or even what time the tournament would start or end if it was a 2 day event but they were very clear in stating entry fees are non refundable for any reason unless they cancel the tournament which they feel entitled to do up to and including the qualifing tournament date. They only have 24 entrants as of today so it may be a sweet deal but not for me that would have to pay $500 air fare with no tournament entry refund if the Durango airport is closed due to weather conditions.
WSOB or typical casino It sounds more like typical casino BS and not the WSOB. It doesn't matter what event a casino is hosting most of the time when you talk to someone at one of them they don't have a clue what is going on. Any other business then gambling and they would be out of business...LOL. All the money they make and they don't put out for a good marketing department and staff to make sure their promotions are advertised correctly or at least the staff knows what is going on. How hard would it be to write the information down and print copies for everyone at the BJ pit's, VIP, front desk, and any other location that may be asked about the WSOB events.
I believe the 'confusion' may be planned. How hard would it be to write the information down and print copies for everyone at the BJ pit's, VIP, front desk, and any other location that may be asked about the WSOB events. I believe some (or all) of this confusion is planned. I believe these smaller venue tournaments are geared to primarily benefit their repeat local players. Outsiders are welcome if they can figure out the system -but the locals have a leg up because they are actually in the casino, every day or so, losing their money on a regular basis, and the tournaments are a kind of bone the casino throws the locals to keep their good will. While Tulsa is a nice enough facility, I'm sure Tulsa would not be sorry if only it's locals were participating .. even in the WSOB qualifiers. Rick -you said they were charging a rake in the high-limit room. Is that to say they are NOT charging a rake elsewhere? I thought Indian BJ in Oklahoma was charging a rake on any hand played, no matter the bet size. Thanks.
The rake (ante) is... On the regular pits the games have a .50 ante for $10 - $49 and $1.00 for $50 and higher and you pay for your drinks. In the high-limit room you have a $1.00 ante all the time and drinks are free. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Runner I disagree, I think Tulsa want to start hosting bigger BJ tournaments and they know to do so they need more players and to get more they need to draw from out of state. I am sure they would want a local to win the event, but I really believe they want to build up their future events.
