It turns out that the north of England has finally been favoured over the south for something.

It did come as a shock though.

I will look forward to seeing you both in the near future.

Don’t’ worry guys, if you don’t mind sharing the same room you can stay at my house, which as you know is just be a few miles down the road from where the new Super Casino will be built.

    Sorry to gloat

    1250 slots

Interesting how few that is. Wonder if its because they dont expect high demand? My closest casino is Chumash, an Indian casino. It has 2000 slot games. They are packed. Pine Tree gave me an article on the tribe that stated every member makes, from memory, 46K$ per month from this casino. Not bad.

    Viva Manchester

1250 is the limit that has been set by government. All existing UK casinos are tiny and I think have various limits imposed on them. But there has been a recent move towards deregulation of gaming and this includes the creation of new, larger casinos, the largest of which has just been awarded to Manchester when everybody thought it would go to Greenwich (in London) or Blackpool.

I never thought about this before but I guess slot machines can be looked upon as a way to re-distribute wealth. Or is it the poor give money to the rich? I get confused how that works.

    Food for thought.

    Chumash Indians

    Hi Barney
The article was published in the Los Angeles Times, August 4, 2006, page B-1.

It says the 152 enrolled members of the Chumash tribe each received $428,969 from Chumash Casino profits in 2005. That is $35,747.42 a month.

    Manchester verses Blackpool again!

Well they say it is never over until the fat lady starts singing.

It looks like the Government may be having a rethink about the first British Super Casino being built in my home city of Manchester.

The pressure is on to give it to the tourist town of Blackpool who were the clear favourite after London to win the bid.

I was in Blackpool three weeks ago and after talking to taxi driver’s hotel staff etc I realised just how much they had wanted the casino to be built there.

In my opinion Blackpool is a complete shit hole now and I fully understand why the locals need the casino in order to help the towns regeneration.

If I was inviting my American pals over here I would be embarrassed if they were to stay in such a tacky place as Blackpool rather than such a wonderful cosmopolitan City as Manchester.

But then again I would be biased anyway.

I wonder what my fellow Brits think?

Here is a link for the story.

I'm pleased that Manchester got the casino. I love London and lived there for many years before "downshifting" to the West Country but I do believe that we can often become a little too Londoncentric in the UK. We have so much more to offer and I believe that Manchester, as our 2nd city (OK, OK, I know that Birmingham is supposed to be No. 2 but... ), is an ideal place to demonstrate this.

The less said about Blackpool the better.

    Bloody scallys :D

    Cheers

    I rather like Blackpool

I'm surprised the CAP's decision isn't binding. It makes the whole process seem like a waste of time. And they've awarded sixteen other locations the right to build smaller casinos; are they all equally uncertain?

If parliament has the final say over the super casino then maybe London isn't out of the running after all. I was looking forward to having a casino in Greenwich; it's close enough that I could just about walk home after losing everything including my bus fare. :D

    Let us know when...

After the completion of the casino, keep us informed when they start up blackjack tournaments.

I can think of three Englishmen I'd be willing to back for the first few tournaments...LOL

    We live in hope

but there's no guarantee that they will offer tournaments. None of the existing casinos do.

    Up yours retracted

Never try to gloat on this site as it may come back to haunt you.

I thought that I would get this on before London Colin and Reachy come back at me.

It is not only the USA who has problems with their politicians when it comes to gaming law.

Looks like the Super Casino may not be in my home city of Manchester after all.

Vote just in hot off the press (see link) so it’s back to the drawing board.

    Andy

As if I would do such a thing. ;)

I think it will still go to Manchester in the end. The Commons voted for Manchester, and the Government remains determined. They just need to convince their Lordships (or ultimately ignore them).

The one stupid thing is that they bound the whole thing up in a single vote. It's only the location of the one Super Casino that is contentious, but they are all being lumped together as a single issue, and thus all being delayed.
