The Venetian events list includes a "Cheers for Jack" BJ tournament at the end of February (23-25). Don't see it listed on the BT calendar anywhere.
Does anyone have any info on this?

It is a no-fee, invite only tournament (RFB guests, I assume). I am playing in it.

    Good luck masonuc

Didn't get an invite myself, despite black chip play there over several days in December. Anyone have any idea what level of action it takes to qualify for an invite (i.e. $200 avg. x 4hrs/day x ? days).

Please, give us a report on it afterwards. I like the Venetian otherwise and would be interested in knowing whether the tournaments are worth giving more action to qualify.

    $300 avgerage...

Normally I am told around a $300 average is needed for their events, but if you get hold of your host there you could get in with around $150 average maybe.

They normally want the standard 4 hours of play for three days at that average for invitations to their events.

Once again just contact your host, or if you don't have one contact one and they maybe able to get you in if they can track your play at other locations.

When I played the Venetian BJ tournament I thought they ran it well, actually I thought it was ran very well. It is one of the few VIP events I felt like everyone was treated as equals.

Good luck, I hope you get in.

The tournament was okay, certainly nothing special. It was free, so can't complain too much, but as someone who attends lots of these tournaments, it was probably my least favorite of all time. First of all, there was no gift (some of the nice Vegas casinos give very nice gifts to players coming to tournaments). Second, and most annoyingly, they had these second chance drawings. So if you got knocked out, they drew your name to re-enter in the next round. They did this for each round, including the finals. Sounds great if you are knocked out but really I'd prefer tournaments that didn't have this option. Not only does it make luck a higher % of the equation, but we had to go hang out in the tournament area for the drawings! Which sucked. (As you can guess by now, I didn't win -- knocked out in first round when I bet it all on last hand and my 19 lost).

There were about 250 players, I think, total prize pool of $150k ($75k to winner). Again, I've been to much better free ones (there are several free tournaments with $300k-$500k in March, in honor of the basketball tourney).

Also I have decided that I am generally not a fan of the Venetian as a hotel. The rooms are nice but the casino is poorly designed and too crowded (not enough open space), the restaurants are sub-par compared to similar casinos, and the staff is generally incompetent.

    March Tourneys in Vegas

Do you (or does anyone) have any further information on the tournaments referred to above -- $300k-$500k in March, in honor of the basketball tourney?

    Thanks in advance.

    Got my Answer

Actually, got my answer listing some March Madness-themed tournaments in Vegas. Just had to do a little research on the Net (mostly searching this site -- tournament schedules). Great board, though, overall -- very informative, thanks!

Masonuc, thanks for the report. Would have said so sooner, but haven't been back here in a while.

I found the 4 (6?) DD tables located just outside the HL room and near the casino hosts' desk very comfortable. And yes, the rooms are very nice, esp. when they're fully comp'd. Don't eat at the V much, exc. the 24hr cafe (the Cheesecake Factory run operation) which is good. Staff didn't seem any better or worse than most places. In fact, the dealers were actually very friendly. I'm not a V "fan", but I feel comfortable playing there at a black-chip-and-up level. Looking forward to trying their new UBT-style sit-n-go events on Friday nights.

The problem with the Venetian Blackjack is that (except for HL room) everything is H17. Which I hate and generally refuse to play. The Venetian HL room is nice but it is very crowded, and there is only 1 DD table. Why would anybody play BJ there regularly when there are plenty of better (S17) casinos to play? I play the HL room occasionally but it has gotten too crowded. Prefer casinos where all games are S17. It is a huge difference, especially in double deck.
