After reading Tex's and hopinglary's posts I decided to start a new thread with this. I'm curious how many members go way back like them. Guess they both have me beat as the first event I played in (Four Queens) was probably in the mid to late 80's. My first "final" table was also at Four Queens a few years later but the one thing I always remember about their tourneys was 7 AM starting times that weren't attractive to party animals like me (20+ years ago) The late Joe Butterfield (pen name GI Joseph) from Blackjack Confidential magazine played most of those events as did Ace Ethridge, Forrest Price and others that have passed on. I can only think of two people other than myself that still are active BJT players, from that community. Anyone else recall those days? Billy C
Three names from the past I remember all three very well, Ace from Oklahoma played several Shreveport/Bossier City tournaments along with Jeff Walden (still playing from Tulsa), Forrest and his wife, the Merritt's John and Darlene (all from Texas) all some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. Ace was on a couple of final tables with me, last was when I won the Excalibur. I remember Ace winning three major blackjack tournaments in a roll, all at different casino's, a record I doubt will ever be broken.
