    I found another online blackjack tournament that looks worthwhile.

    This one is January 14th to 16th, with $5000 in prizes. It's at WagerWeb.
    The prize structure is:
    1st = $2000
    2nd = $1200
    3rd = $700
    4th = $500
    5th = $200
    6th = $150
    7th = $100
    8th = $75
    9th = $50
    10th = $25

    Rankings are based on the average ratio of wins to bets on each hand. For example, if you bet $10 twice and win once and lose once, your ratio of wins to bets works like this: ($10/$10 + $0/$10) / 2 = 0.50 = 50%.
    (This is like the recent Cherry Casino and CasinoEuro events, except those used payout/bet ratios.)

    The leaderboard available at their site is empty now, but I did see it a few days ago still showing the last event's winners. I think a 50% score was good enough to take 4th place. First place was over 70% which is quite good in this format. 100 hands minimum to be eligible for prizes.

    Any prize money won must be risked 10x in the casino. So, if you take first place, you'll be required to wager $20K in the casino before withdrawing. For example, 2000 hands at $10 each.

    Good luck

    If the percentages on the leaderboard look like they did last time, you'll only have to be a little lucky to finish in the money.

    We may have a bigger edge than usual in this event because WagerWeb is primarily a sportsbook. Many of the players may not play blackjack often, so basic strategy might be a rarity. I think the same was true at the recent Betcom tournament.

    My take on this is that there is no benefit to double down and win compared to win the hand without doubling. Am I right?

    Correct

    Yes, as I understand it, there is no benefit to doubling.

    What is the routing to find the leaderboard?

    Hi Ken,

    I looked for the leaderboard on the link you provided - but couldn't find it. How did you navigate the site?

    I bet you're viewing at 800x600

    If your screen resolution is 800x600, you won't see the leaderboard unless you scroll to the right. That's probably it.
    Just in case, I've attached an image of the leaderboard. (Don't use this info, as it won't update as things change!)

    How are pushes and surrenders counted?

    I was trying to figure out the percentages and wonder how they compute pushes and surrenders in the formula. Can you give some insight?

    Push = Loss

    As I guessed prior to the event, only wins count. A push is the same as a loss; both add a zero-win hand to your score. I'm sure that surrender would be equal, so you shouldn't.

    In case it's still not clear...

    Bet $2, win $2.
    Bet $2, push, no win.
    Bet $2, lose, no win.
    Bet $2, Blackjack, win $3.

    Their formula is:

    100 X [($2/$2 + 0/$2 + 0/$2 + $3/$2) / 4 hands ]
    = 100 X (2.5/4)
    = 62.5

    A minimum of 100 hands is required. I'm in third place at the moment. I'm AF2173 on the leaderboard.

    Leaderboard

    Go to WagerWeb home page. Then move the screen so you can view the leaderboard on the extreme right side. It is not visable until you move to the right.

    Leaderboard not updating immediately

    FYI:
    I noticed earlier today that the leaderboard wasn't updating immediately, unlike yesterday. I emailed to ask and got this response:
    "Nothing wrong. It should be updated later on today."

    Whatever the case, be aware that you won't be able to see the effect of your play immediately. The leaderboard has been the same for at least 3 hours now.

    The leaderboard has not been updating for at least 15 hours now.
    The support person in chat simply apologizes and states the technician is the only one in charge. However, he does not answer his phone.
    The repair will be done late afternoon or tomorrow(!) :mad:

    I am really glad that I did not pay any entrance fees. And I am glad that most of the online casinos out there are acting in a way more professional way!

    Leaderboard Update

    I just talked via phone with the Casino operator whe checked with someone else & the response was " the board will not be updated until Monday morning when the people come to work. This is the weekend & it will not happen today"
    Strangely enough, it did update earlier this morning, but not since Ken moved down to 9th place.
