Pearl River Resort in Philadelphia Mississippi is running $200 entry fee events every Thursday in November and December, with a $5000 first place prize. This is also a satellite for World Series of Blackjack on GSN.

I've added the event to the Tournament Calendar, but if you get more details please update it.

  2. I am going up there for a couple of days this Sunday. I'll see if I can get any details.

  3. I was up there last weekend. They had signage up stating the tournament dates were every Thursday starting Nov. 24 and continuing through Dec. 29. The signs said to go to Pearl River Rewards for details. I went and they didn't know anything regarding rules or format. They suggested I check with the VIP desk. I did and they didn't know anything either. The only thing useful that I gathered beyond what Ken has already mentioned is that registration starts at 6PM and the tournament starts at 7. For most of their earlier tournaments, you could register at the main cage earlier than that but the actual registration table would open at 6. Therefore, I think you could probably get registered in advance but can't guarantee that.

They are also having a monthly BJ tournament the second Tuesday of every month. That tournament is not connected to the WSOB.

Is there a hotel on site or nearby? I would like to drive up from Baton Rouge to play but its quite a ride. Is it a 100% equity tournament? How much is a seat in the WSOB worth?

  5. There are hotels attached to both the Silver Star casino and the Golden Moon casino. Silver Star has 500 rooms, Golden Moon has 600. Both are nice properties located across the highway from one another and connected by an elevated people mover.
I doubt that the tournament has 100% equity. I don't know that for sure but the tribe is notorious for bad deals.

I was at the Golden Moon last night and got a complete copy of the tourney rules. If anyone would like a copy just send your fax number and I can send them to you.
Looks like the format is 60 player(min of 20 players for tourney to roll) max per night $200 buy in 10 tables of 6 with 500 in chips. 5 minimum and 200 maximum bets.20 hands will be dealt. Winner on each table advances to semi's plus 2 wild cards. Final table will be top 3 players from each semi final table. Winner receives $1000 and a seat at finals on Dec 29th.
Winner of final on Dec 29th receives $5000 and a seat at WSOBJ all expenses paid. This seems like kind of a slim pay out to me. If they fill the tourney each time that would be $72,000 and the best I can figure the pay out would be around $14K plus what ever the trip to WSOBJ would cost. Maybe the WSOBJ has a player financed fund pool.

    all the best

Yeah that sucks. It would cost me a minimum of $500 to make the trip up there each time. I'd rather do the Niagara Falls qualifier for the same price. Airplane tickets are only $150 out of New Orleans roundtrip.

WSOB player financed? I think so

    Shanarock:
On your Nov. 4 post you asked "Maybe the WSOB has a player financed fund pool". You are probably onto something.

The HO-CHUNK in Wisconsin is having 3 satellites, each for a seat in the WSOB. Entry fees will bring in about $50,000 per satellite. First place receives a seat in the WSOB, hotel room, meals, and "VIP treatment (whatever that means) --- no cash. They advertise this as being worth $50,000. I asked them how they arrived at that figure and this was their response:
$25,000 goes to the prize pool of $1,000,000 for the WSOB (40 players will compete). The remaining $25,000 goes for "production costs".

Now, to me this sounds like the entry fees for the WSOB are indeed used to finance the WSOB prize money PLUS the satellite players are being sucked into paying costs that the promotors should pay. Doesn't sound fair to me. The promotors will rake in the profits while the players pay the bills.

On second thought, this sounds like a scam. If any promotors are reading this, I'd like your response --- but I'm not holding my breath.

Just left Golden Mooon in Philadelphia and meant to post the the tourney info. Lucky for me, Shanarock has beat me to the punch. I see I'm not the only one that doesn't like the looks of things. The table games supervisor told me the winning seat is worth 25k. They are taking in 72,000 - 14,000 being paid out leaves 58k. Looks like HOSTING the qualifier is worth 33,000!
