I haven't even checked to see who is on tonights show and I already know I'll like it better than last weeks show, why? Paul won't be on it...LOL.

I'll quit ragging on Paul, he's young and probally thought he was coming across a lot better than he did on TV. Plus he won his right to be on the show and than went out and won his table in round one so you can't take that away from him, like him or not!

I do hope I see less antics and talking tonight and more blackjack.

Kenny E. went down on last weeks show on a heartbreaking hand, but we still have Ken S., Hollywood, Kami (2nd last year on WSOB), David Mathews (UBT champ), Angie Hardy (UBT Female Champ), and Rock & Roll Darrell left to play as members from BJT.com

Good luck to the remaning players.

    Paul - boaring without him

I had problems with my satellite receiver so couldn't see the first WSOB III until Friday's rerun. I want keep my comments restricted to Paul since the other aspects of the show have been pretty well covered.

OK, everything negative said about Paul is probably basically true. However, without him, would the program be as much fun to watch? I loved him getting the goat of Kenny E. and then Kenny E. reacting the way he did. Shows a human side to Kenny E. that you don't normally see in BJT's. It happens in poker all the time and it makes for good TV. Paul is the man you love to hate. People will watch him to hopefully go down in a ball of flames. If this happens, people will say "good for the son of a -----". If he wins again they'll say "damn" (or something similar). Either way, he is a TV draw and isn't that what we want - more BJ popularity on TV?

Now, among the unknowns, how many players can you name, first and last name, off the top of your head that played against Paul? I can't name any! Name recognition is the way to TV (or any other) popularity. Paul "the assassin" Hass is now etched on our brains. Quite a feat for a total unknown (except for maybe his mother - he can't have any friends) as of 1 week ago.

You hit the nail on the head! Like him or not, Paul "the assassin" made great TV. And if there's one thing the viewers love more then a hero, it's someone to root against. As for Kenny E., everyone who has played in a few tourney's has experienced a hand like that. And while sad, you can definately relate to it. I don't think the shows' producers could have written a better dramatic twist.

I would normally agree with the 'villan' making great TV. It works great when Hollywood does it. Problem is Paul Haas tried to talk smack, but he could barely talk. A shit-talker cannot someone be if they can't speak the English too good. =P

To me, that made for bad TV, and instead of being compelled by the villan, I wanted to change the channel and watch baseball.

The Kenny hand was compelling TV, I will give the first episode that.

Here's to hoping that tonight's episode is good.

Yes a Villian makes for good TV, but...

Your right Hollywood was a good Villian to root against, but that was because a he at least understood what he was doing and talking about.

A good Villian should be the evil Mastermind with a evil plan, the problem with Paul is he isn't a mastermind and had no clue what he was doing.

    Dumb Like A Fox

I was just reading the posts on this thread and it occurred to me that Paul may be just playing the viewers.

First off, he is not "evil". Maybe a few other things, but not evil.

    Look what we have:
    A guy who's clothes don't fit.
A guy who's clothes do not fit his haircut, personality, or mannerism.
A guy who "seems" to have no strategy.
    A loud mouth.
A guy that can't talk no good English.
In short, a guy who should have no chance in a tournament!!!

But wait, he did win. He won against 1,000 players in Mystic Lake and now he won his first round in the WSOB. He will be one of the "final 8". How many of us have accomplished that in open competition- don't all raise your hand at the same time.

I'm suggesting he may be dumb like a fox.

He verbally attacks his opponents. He made Kenny E. his prime target right from the start. He may have thought (yes he is capable of thought) "If I can take him down, the rest will crumble with fear". And you what, it may have worked. All the players were so occupied with hating Paul and he got into their mind so well that they may have not played their best game.

Paul does understand some basic strategy about tournament play. He may know a lot more than he displayed but that may have been part of his strategy. You know, bate your opponent into thinking you're a stupid loud mouth when all along it is a well calculated attack on the opponents mind.

 DUMB LIKE A FOX:eek: - JUST MAYBE

    Food for thought.

    Annoying Players

A regular at my local casino annoys the other players with his antics at the table (though he's actually a very nice guy.) I've played against him several times. The effect he has on the other players serves my purposes, and his act provides the added benefit of amusement for me. The other regulars are used to it too. He's not as obnoxious as "The Assasshole" either.

This is a word that is commonly used in talking about New York City cab drivers and their driving ability. Its not easy going from driving a camel to driving a car in NY City traffic .But since most of them do not speak a word of English to begin with you can say it anyway you like. They eventually get the meaning

  13. hey toolman lock it up

Hey toolman lock you're mouth up! You have not a clue who Paul Haas is and I think you're retired old age ass is losing it. I wonder how far your strategic expertise got you?

toolman's message definitely didn't appear to be Assassin-bashing to me. Perhaps your response was intended for someone else? I'm confused!

Assasins brother are you an A$$???

Hey toolman lock you're mouth up! You have not a clue who Paul Haas is and I think you're retired old age ass is losing it. I wonder how far your strategic expertise got you?

Ok, you are an ass. Can you read? He was standing up for Paul (who coincidentally I believe authored this post. Haven't we already discussed being a man and owning up to what you say???)

Also if you want to look intelligent while flaming someone at least use better grammar ok?

On a final note Toolmans most recent 3rd place finish @ the Stardust was pretty damn good.... Im not his personal statistician so I can't comment further but I'm sure there's more.

So go ahead tell us all what YOU have won, aside from the one tournament?
Maybe focus more on winning again and less being so angry and bitter.

Oh and let me save you the trouble, I've never won anything and don't claim to be a great tournament player, so bashing me or my accomplishments would be a waste.

I've been called a dirty old man but ...

    Ken and mariad:
Thanks for your support and comments

    THE ASSASSINS BROTHER:

I was a little set back by your comments because, if you read all the posts about Paul (this thread and others), I gave him more credit than probably anyone. Go back and read "Dumb Like a Fox" and you'll see what I mean.

Now as far as writing etiquette, using terms like "lock up your mouth" and "you're retired old age ass" just doesn't cut it on this forum. Yes, we criticize each other all the time, it's part of discussion. We learn by it and make ourselves better players and yes better people. But name calling, it's just not "cool". (Yes I use the word "cool", have been for over 45 years and I really do know what it means.)

As far as cutting down a person due to their age, remember, anyone who lives long enough will be there, including you. Yes you can lift more weight than me, maybe beat the crap out of me - I did say maybe, run faster than me and have sex (whatever that is) more often but you can't out-think me and I'm not alone. I know people 2, 3, 4 times your age that are sharp as ever and can easily match wits with most any 20 something.

So tread carefully young man. Learn from your elders. Once you get there, then maybe the then young generation can learn from you.

    PS1:
I'm not that old. I retired at 55 with the profits from working hard for 35 years. Will you be able to say the same at 55?
    PS2:
I'm not sure if I'm talking to Paul, his friend, or his brother. If any of you continue posting on this forum, please use separate handles. It would help and do watch the language.

    To the toolman

yeah toolman i agree with you i dont know why he said what he did. It did not make a whole lot of sense. Assassins brother you need to read things more carefully before you act upon them. As I thank you for defending me Mark just think before you speak.

    Not looking for challenges

    diablomn24:

I think you have the making of a good tournament player but as you admitted on live radio, you need to do some studying. As I said before, I like the intimation factor - wish I could use it effectively. Also, from the radio program, I like your PMA (positive mental attitude). That is a very necessary trait to being successful. If you improve your knowledge of tournament play and then use your personality to intimidate your opponents, you may have something good. The poker guy PHIL H does this and it made him rich and famous.

Now keep in mind that on this forum we criticize each other. We do it to help each other improve their game and that's what this forum is all about. I've learned plenty from the criticism I have received and so can anyone if they open their mind to it. Don't need to be a college grad, just have an open mind and a willingness to learn.

As for challenges, I'm not looking for any. I'm long past the point where I have to prove anything to anyone. I just do my own thing and I'm happy. Life's too short to fool with this kind of thing and it would prove nothing. Father time will answer the question best. One's lifetime tournament record will provide a better answer than a given match.
