The button is at seat 3. Tournament round 1, hand 8 of 30. This is an elimination hand. BR3 is in seat 1 with 25,000. BR2 is in seat 3 with 26,250. BR1 is in seat 5 with 32,000. YOU are in seat 6 with 24,000. Betting: BR2 bets secretly. BR1 bets 2,000. YOU bets 12,000. BR3 bets 9,000. Dealing cards: BR2 : 8d 7c. BR1 : 4s 9s. YOU : Kd 6d. BR3 : 2s Kc. The dealer shows Ah. BR2 (8d 7c) hits, is dealt 2d, stands with 17. BR1 (4s 9s) hits, is dealt 6d, stands with 19. YOU (Kd 6d) BR3 (2s Kc) hits, is dealt 5c, stands with 17. WHAT shoud YOU do?
Forget BR1 and concentrate on the others. Both BR2 and BR3 are 2:1 dogs vs the dealer. Options: Knowing that BR3 has 17 Surrender - 64.49% Stand - 16.7% Hit once - 25.9% However in your example you didn't actually know what BR3 had when you had to make your decision as they acted after you, and you only knew that BR2 had 17 but had no idea what their bet was. This obviously complicates things. If you think BR2 has the low then surrender (as above). If you think you have the low and BR2 has the high then surrender and standing are equally as good at 64.49% but hitting is better at 70.28%. Doubling for the full amount is worst at 25.9%. However what I would do in this particular scenario though is double for the minimum bet so that I keep the low and keep the card hidden from BR3 who still has to act. Cheers Reachy
