Who do you think will win the World Series of Blackjack? Based on their play in preliminary rounds, here are my odds: Micky Rosa 3-1 Ken Smith 4-1 Regina Guizor 5-1 MIT Mike 6-1 Hollywood Dave 6-1 Jimmy Dimes 7-1 So you see, I think it's pretty wide open. As Max says on every episode, any of these players can win.
Only by your odds! If I was betting with those odds? I would go in this order: Mike and Dave at 6 - 1 (I like the high odds you offer for these two) Jimmy at 7 - 1 (Same with Jimmy, although he is the longshot at the table) Ken at 4 - 1 (If I had to pick, Ken would be the favorite) Micky at 3 - 1 (I like Micky's play, but not at these odds) Regina at 5 -1 (Tough table, even with good eye sight, I read for her sometimes and wish her the best) This is not a knock on any of these players, I congradulate all for making the Finals. I would bet the casino wouldn't have this high of odds on these players, remember Mike is part of the MIT team, Ken is probally the best tournament player in the group, and Dave is just lucky (with some skill). With this group I would bet that it is won with a high amount based on the first rounds of these players. If this is the case Ken, Regina, and Jimmy could be in trouble early if the dealer is cold since they play more by the book then the others. On the other hand if the dealers is hot Dave could be in trouble early, Micky and Mike will start out small, but not afraid to bet if needed. Like in most tournaments it is anybodys to win, it is who get's the luckest. It will be a big Blackjack, DD, or possibly a multi-split, that makes the differance or that is the case in most tournaments. Reguardless I have enjoyed watching the show every Monday and the comments from all the players afterwards. Hopefully GSN will host another World Series of Blackjack show in the near future.
True, the highly skilled DO make it look easy. I can understand how you'd mistake it for just dumb luck... Ye of little faith. As for who to bet on? I'd always put my money on myself... and at 6-to-1 odds, quite a payout! Do I get a point spread option as well? Some WSoBJ gossip for ya: In the green room most of the players hung out in during the taping of each others' shows (so as to have the best vantage point of the live closed-circuit feed of the action), many crazy sidebets were made. One of the more interesting ones? James Grosjean making 10-to-1 odds that Stanford Wong wouldn't make it past the first 10 hands of his qualifying round (before busting out). Munchkin took him up on it, as did I -- but quickly withdrew when I realized I'd get paid 10 times my $10 bet only if he DIDN'T make it past hand ten -- I mistakingly thought the bet was the other way around, and that I had struck a real goldmine of a wager!! Needless to say, our fearless captain didn't make it much further, and Munchkin lost his bet to Grosjean when SW made it farther than hand 10... -dave.
I agree 6-1 to high of odds As skillful and masterful as you say you are you should be the favorite Dave. Wrong…lol, but I do agree that you and Mike are not 6-1 long shots, I'd bet on both of you, (based on the odds given). I still think the best bet would be Ken at 4-1, but if the dealer is cold it could be a long round for him. As far as backroom bets, I would have loved to bet you that you couldn't go half way through the round (15 hands) without saying anything, you may have won but it would have killed you...lol.
You should see me play in poker tournaments... i'm even louder & more boisterous there. In fact I've been known to promise to keep quiet for 5 whole minutes the next time somebody doubles me up... and believe me, to some people its actually worth it to trade a chunk of their chips for a little piece of sanity! -dave.
This sounds like a pretty effective ploy for you, especially if you follow through! I'll have another comment to make on this subject after the show airs tonight. BTW, I'd bet on you at 6:1 as well. That's definitely an overlay. The average player in the finals would pay 5:1 as fair odds. In my opinion, there's no question that you're a better bet at 6:1 than I am at 4:1. Better yet is Jimmy Pine at 7:1. Jimmy's not a bad player, and that's a nice number.
Jimmy..huh? Mmm, Ken likes Jimmy at 7 to 1 and he was there! Makes it sound like Jimmy could be a good play! Since no one is betting on my buddy Regina at 5 to 1, I will take her at those odds. I would also bet and give 5 to 1 that she doesn't come in last.
Regina hosting WSOB party I just got off the phone with Regina and she told me that she is hosting a WSOB party tonight, mmm maybe my 5 - 1 bet is pretty good.
Now I have some action on the WSOB! To make things interesting A friend of mine and I bet a Del Frisco's Dinner on the out come of tonights finals. He won the coin toss and picked first, here are the picks in order. The score is based on the 3 players total for finish: 1st = 10 pts, 2nd = 8pts, 3rd = 6pts, 4th = 4pts, 5th = 3pts, & 6th = 2pt. Code: Rusty's picks My pick's 1st - Ken Smith 2nd - Micky Rosa 3rd - Regina Guzior 4th - MIT Mike 5th - Hollywood Dave 6th - Jimmy Pine Knowing most of Rusty's picks, I was hoping for you guy's, but know I have a steak dinner bet. Sorry guy's I got to cheer for my group now...lol. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE FINALIST TONIGHT! The show has been a hit!
As the amateur here, I really don't have any idea who would win, but I wish you all the best of luck! And hopefully the winner will be somebody that posts here at this board because I'd really like to do an interview with whoever wins.
