    Where do I audition

Didn't the announcers miss a clear lock out on the last hand .If Tony the player in seat 1 surrenders his 5,000 bet he locks up a sure win even if John Payne wins a max bet DD. Where do I audition to be one of the commentators for next years show.

I'm serious about this a accomplished player should be in the booth to explain to the audience why certain bets are being made and what the player is trying to accomplish with their bets and why they played their hand a certain way. They do it in every other major sporting event why not for blackjack TV tournaments. It would be a great learning tool for the novice viewer and one that may make them tune back in once they understands why these bets and hand playing decisions are being made.

I was thinking the same exact thing, kicking the table in front of me when he didn't surrender and it wasn't even addressed.

I've got play by play experience. I'll do PBP, you do color next year. :joker:

Am i looking at these numbers wrong?

While i certainly agree that a lot of the nuance is missed without a pro player in the booth (not that we really need that level of analysis when certain players win 8 or 9 hands in a row! grrr...) i don't think Tony had a lock on the final hand... if he surrenders his 5k bet he ends up with $430,500 but with John's max bet win he clears that by $250 with a final total of $430,750.

On a more personal note, this was certainly a frustrating match for me to play. Not only watching the leaders win practically every single hand, but getting swung by LB1 on the first knockout hand. And how sick is it to see the final bankrolls hovering over 4 times the starting totals -- this was certainly some Big Bet Blackjack going on here! To his credit i gotta say my favorite player at the table was John Payne, a real class act and no stranger to tournament strategy. Lets hope he can bring it home in the wild card round...

    TV Adjustment

I didn't record the show so my numbers may be wrong but Ace saw the same thing I did .May we need to adjust our TV screens.

As far as a pro player in the booth, it is something that GSN should have on their to do list for next year's show, the "PRO" would not only be able to explain things in a much more precise manner but also explain what to do when you are faced with a player who has won 8 or 9 hands in a row. John Payne dealt with that task and he was betting and playing his hands in front of him 4 out of 5 hands.Considering his position he did a fine job of hanging in there.

I believe that if the audience has someone fully explaining the plays from an experts view it will make the show less intimidating for some to watch. Now there is no one holding the novice viewers hand on some of these plays .Saying that a player took the low and all he really has is 2nd low is confusing especially when only 1 player really advances. That was said tonight

Hollywood tell the truth you just liked him because his last name was Payne

Is there a Play by Play available yet?

We in the UK will have to wait sometime till we get to see any of this (if ever  !) Is there a play by play account of the WSOB anywhere? If not are you guys going to do it (nudge, nudge, wink, wink ;) )

I don't suppose there is a webcast or anything like that?

    Here's hoping

I'll have to check it out on the replay, but it really did jump out at me that a surrender would have sealed it by something like $1000 or so. I'll Tivo it and check it out again :)

I could see it was starting to drive you nuts. :D

Numbers like those will drive anyone crazy...except maybe GSN as you heard the announcers play up point that they were possibly the 'highest totals ever' like they were a good thing.

    Saw the show today...

Hollywood had the correct play by play for the last hand.

Tony was BR1 with $433,000 and bet min. $5,000.

Shawn was BR3 with $189,000 and bet max. $50,000.

John was BR2 with $230,750 and bet max. $50,000.

    The hands and actions were:

Tony caught - Jack - six and stood.

Shawn caught - 4 - Ace and DD for full $50,000.

    John caught - 5 - 3 and DD for full $50,000.

Dealer had 10 up, flipped a 4 and then a Jack to bust.

    Final results:

    1st - Tony
    2nd - John
    3rd - Shawn

As far as the Tony surredering for a lock, NO! He would have been $250 short if John's DD would have swung him had he surrendered.

Sorry Joep, if the WSOB gets a new Play By Play man I think Hollywood edges you out.

    God help us all....LOL

Actually I personally think Joep would make a good PBP person. He really does do a GREAT job on the radio show and he does know tournament blackjack.

Joep, you can do PBP on the cruise tournaments!

Now I have to go get sick after being nice to him...LOL.

On the bright side of things, I thought Hollywood did what he always does best, and that's entertain.

There were great plays and players in that bunch, and a tough set of deals for some. But in the end, Hollywood, took his shirt off. What a bonus;) and no doubt a memorable exit until the next WSOB.:D

Actually Joep was the play by play man for last years WSOB. Unfortunately for the home viewers, he was in the green room with only an audience of 8.

    Hear hear!

Oh, and that had a killer with all those split threes and only a $1,000 bet. I could feel the pain on that.

For my two cents --- I'll comment that this was certainly an interesting episode when it came to the Power Chip. We saw two blackjacks gained via the power chip and two other instances where a power chip was used only for it to result in the exact same hand.

Oh, and there was one point where Tony got a blackjack and was wondering if maybe he was gonna double down, if only to build on that already huge lead of his. Didn't happen, though. I don't think we've seen that happen yet, this season. I'm assuming that was still allowed this season, right?

    A Audience of 8

You are correct Swog !! An audience of 8 but the reviews of my play by play and calling the bets out were pretty good and it was done live with no post production. The only one I got wrong wrong was Rick's DD . But then again he was the only one in the building that thought that was the optimum DD . Hey but the Cowboy did OK, better than 35 of us .Now I'm going to get sick having said that.
