Ken Smith isn't around to start this thread so I'll take the liberty to get it started again.

July 17th players are: Frank Calderone (Foxwoods), Pat Nicholas (Ute Mountain), Henry Fletcher (Isle of Capri Lake Charles), Mikki Padilla, David Matthews

    OK, let's hear it.

    My 2 pesos

All I'm gonna say is that this year's show is getting frustrating to watch as we consistently see people who obviously know what they're doing going down to people who don't.

But, that's how this game goes and that's probably what GSN wants to get more viewers...but it does frustrate me (not as much as David, Dave and Kenny E though I would assume).

Watching it this week, I now see that I made a bet on the knock out hand that didn't give me the high or the low. At the time, all I thought to myself was that I wanted to get all my chips in the circle. It turned out if I won that hand, I would have been chip leader. Having said that, I probably should have gone low. The woman opened that up for me.

If I could have gone high for the lead that would have been one thing, but we all win one bet and I was still out. They gave me the low and I should have taken it.

Still, a double with 9 against a 7 with a redraw on my hit card for the chip lead isn't a bad spot. Had I gone low, I would have increased my chances of advancing past the KO, but not necessarily to win the table.

Easy to say after the fact when the dealer made 21.

The BK Power Chip was a lot better to the other players than it was to me.. but that's gambling.

    There's always a better bet.

    Help Us All

Will some one please tell me when they changed A-3 vs 4 in a 6 deck game to a basic strategy Double Down. :joker:

Its one thing to have less then stellar play from new players but when the hired blackjack guru tells the viewing audience that the player should DD because its a basic strategy DD that is sad

All or most of this audio is done in post production voice overs .Why was this not corrected .

Where do I audition for this job ?

    DD advice

I'll write you a letter or recommendation, Joe! That DD comment by the narrator was clearly out in left field.

    Frustrated?

Im mostly frustrated that Mikki didnt make it, WOW that was eye candy!.. For me its hard to use he word frustrated off invitational players not making it. Even tho these lowly players with less experience are by Gods good grace beating the seasoned technical players I have a hard time telling myself the seasoned players deserved better. They were on a free ride and it didnt work out for them. Grandma from Ute said she had dumb luck following her all her life. It still has her back.

    Power Chip

It Seems The Power Chip Is Making Or Breacking The Players-they Can Go From Last To First In A One Hand-it Seems Ken S Is The Only One To Advance Of The So Called Advantage Players-maybe Next Year Is My Turn See You All There:d
I Thought This Week Was A Good Show Anyway-LOOKING FORWARD TO THE WILD CARDS ROUNDS

    Condolences...

Sorry to see David get the boot. I had to root for Grandma after that. It was nice to see some tighter betting, and, she really pushed her competitors. Pat's Catch-Up bets paid off! Luck is on her side. Me, I'd be drawing a 2 on those max bet DD's and the dealer would get 21.

  9. I was sorry to see David go out early. Still, the last few hands after the second knockout card had an undeniable air of excitement to them that not many of the previous shows have sustained. Everyone still playing had a chance and every decision was important. Each turn of the card could change many things. All this was attained without anyone having to act obnoxious or flamboyant for TV purposes. I definitely enjoyed the last 5 hands. I don't demand technical perfection in play as much as I just wish for some drama. After all, this is a television show, not a teaching video.

I will agree with the earlier post that GSN probably likes having the lesser known players experience some success. Most people watching the show are more likely to tune in again if they can have a little of that "Man, that could be me" feeling. That feeling is what made Who Wants To Be A Millionaire a television phenomena. They don't get that feeling if the only ones being successful are the "experts". That isn't neccesarily my feeling but I suspect that it is the GSN feeling.

    Hurray for GRANDMA

From an entertainment point of view, I enjoyed this episode more than any other. Not withstanding some poor commentaries (they don't want to spoil their record), I was really interested to see who would win. In particular, watching "grandma" come from behind kept my interest more than anything else. I may have bet and played different but hey, she did it her way and damn it, it worked. I think this is a classic example of why "knock out" or "elimination" rounds are a bad thing. If a knock out round occurred when she was at her low point, this would have been just another run of the mill episode and she would be out the $25,000 and possibly more.

    Hurray for GRANDMA!:celebrate

And don't take away my chair as long as I have a chip!:gun:

The Power Chip certainly has some influence, but all of the players get one and each has an equal chance of using it to his or her disadvantage. I'd say it certainly plays a role, but I don't think it's necessarily make-or-break. I mean, it can help or hurt a player one hand, but there's still all of the others to play.

    Way to Go Pat!

After meeting Pat at Ute in January, I am familiar with her "dumb luck"...she has some great stories. Does anyone know if this episode will ever play again? I missed it and would love to see it.

    Replay

If history is any guide, this series will be replayed (maybe several times) by GSN sometime in the future. Problem is that the TV listings will not show who is playing or the episode number. So all I can say is GOOD LUCK.

I finally got caught up on episodes a few days ago, watching this one. I think this may have been the most entertaining episode yet. Watching Pat go from a low of $16,000 to her final winning total near $300,000 was pretty amazing.
