I went up to play in the T at Harrah's Prairie Band Casino (Topeka Ks.) It was a $100 entry fee, but they had changed the rules and didn't say anything about the rule change. Last time it was 3 players from the first table move on. (made it) Second round top 2 players move on. (made it) Third round only the top player moves on to the finals. (oops, didn't make it) This time, three tables per session and the top TWO move on, BUT not the top two from each table. The top two from ALL three tables. In other words you are playing against 20 other players at once. Say you have $3,000 and it is the last hand, what do you bet ??? You don't know if the right bet is $25 or $3,000. You don't know what the other tables are doing. Also, if you get a hot dealer you may win your table and still not be close to moving on. I thought it was a very poor format. I got my money back and didn't play in it........
I agree That type of format is pretty weak. I don't like to play in them, because like you pointed out you could win your table and still not advance. But if it is the only game in town and the price is right I'd give it ago. It is really up to each player and their likes and dislikes. Ballys (Tunica) is one of the top tournaments in the country because they add $25,000 to the prize pool, but I really don't care for the accumulative style format. Now if I lived closer (then 9 hours away) or if they were hosting multiple tournaments in Tunica the same week I am sure I would go down and play in it.
