WSOBJ Qualifier at Pearl River Resort, Philadelphis, MS

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Golden Moon casino hosted the 2nd of five qualifying sessions last Thursday, Dec 1. They must be terribly disappointed with the registrations after paying GSN $50,000 for the priviledge. On Thanksgiving day qualifier, they had 17 enteries. On Dec 1 there were 23. The event had posted a limit of 60 enteries for each.
Along with myself were Ken Smith, Marvin O, Danny (?) great player, & some other good ones. Walt h was there but chose not to play. Surprisingly none of the above won it.
It was a well run, fair operation. The staff was extermely nice & got things worked out after determining how to handle the liminited number of enteries.
The facility is very, very nice. The hotel accomodation was absolutely outstanding. The suite had a large living room, bar, 1/2 bath. The large bedroom was also very nice. The bath had double sinks, shower, hot tub, & private toilet area. To say the least, I was pleasantly surprised.
For anyone interested in qualifying, I highly recommend a trip there for play. You can register ahead or wait until you get there. If you need any help ask for casino host Jack. He really set things up for me after the front desk told me that the accomodations I requesed were not available.
Rules were S17, DAS, no surrender, insurance, 3:2 BJ.
The only disadvantaqge is the location that is 35 miles from Meridian, MS, & not close to anything else. It can also be accessed from I-55 by going State route 35 through Kosiesco(?) to Carthage & then highway 16 to the casino. This by-passes Philadelphia.
If anyone needs further info you can e mail me at marvinhopper@comcast.net

  3. Heck, with those kind of entry numbers, I may have to get up there next Thrursday. Those low numbers make this a more palatable tournament.

    Reminder

Since you live in Mississippi, it might be worth the shot, especially if you can get to the final table in just one round. Just remember that if you win during the week, you still have to go back for a playoff during the last week of December to actually get the seat.

I checked their website yesterday and it doesn't show anything about the WSOB anymore on it that I could find. Springbac said a local won the tourney last week. I am wondering if the casino pulled the rest of the qualifers and plan to just give the seat to the local person. You might want to call and confirm what the situation is before heading over on Thursday.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

    dec 8th entries

I just called the Golden Moon and was told there were no entries as of this time for the December 8th tournament. It was just a main cage cashier, but she told me to call back tomorrow and hopefully they would have more entries, and as far as she knew the tournament was still being played. I did not like the way they originally were going to run this, but with entries this small, I will have to make the 4 hour ride.

  7. I hope they keep this thing going until Dec. 15. I have a conflict tomorrow night but the 15th fits well. PRR is a little less than an hour from my house so I can get there pretty easily. There is a pretty good host named Cliff Cattell that might know what is going on. He used to run all the table tournaments for PRR before he became a host.

I just called and registered for tomorrow (the 8th) by credit card.
If you call to register, just ask for the Golden Moon main cashier. Otherwise, they'll transfer you all over the place trying to figure out who knows what to do.

I'll see some of you there.

  9. Good Luck to those of you headed to Philadelphia. Be careful, it has been raining here for several hours and the roads are mighty slippery. Plus, half the people around here can't drive on dry roads, much less wet ones.:p Wish I could be there with you but I have to wait until next week. The HS football team I do public address for is playing for the MS 5A state championship Friday night and we are having a community-wide pep rally tonight. Everyone connected with the team has to be there.

Maybe the wet roads held down the attendance, or maybe the public just doesn't like the format. Last night's event hosted only 13 players!

(Note to casino management... Regardless of the worth of the one seat you are giving away, a $200 entry fee for a $1000 winner-take-all prize just isn't going to get many people excited about these events.)

There were two other BJT members present that I knew, and they were both starting to play at the final table when I left. No such luck for me. I'll be there next week as well, competing in an invitational tournament on Thursday and Friday as well as the WSOB qualifier.

Low entry for WSOB at Pearl River Resort

I was told they only had 13 enter last week so I plan to go tomorrow and try my luck. And a big plus is that I won plenty of money last night to enter. I won first place in the monthly $25 buy in Black Jack Tournament. Was a lot of fun since I lost the first round and decided to sit out the second round in favor of a hot pitch game. Walked over for the wild card draw got my name called and won it all.$3000

So come on out..... with this small an entry every week it could be your best chance of winning that WSOBJ seat.

  17. Anybody that was at the finals care to share who won the seat from this qualifier? I had just gotten back from a week in LV and was just too worn out to get up there to watch.

I was told the winner was named John, but I don't know anything further. I know eastexaspro was in the finals, finishing third.
