Press release from GSN: For Immediate Release Wednesday, April 25, 2007 WORLD SERIES OF BLACKJACK IV PREMIERES ON GSN 40 Top Players Compete for $1,000,000 Orel Hershiser, Penn Jillette, Caroline Rhea and Shannon Elizabeth Join Players From Casinos Nationwide in the Tournament (Santa Monica, CA) – GSN deals in another season of the top blackjack tournament in the world as the WORLD SERIES OF BLACKJACK IV (WSOBJ IV) debuts Monday, June 4 at 11 PM ET/10 PM CT. The tournament returns to the Las Vegas Hilton and the winner will walk away with $500,000. Players qualified for the WSOBJ IV from officially sanctioned casinos across the country as well as “super satellite” tournaments at the Las Vegas Hilton. The 40 player field was rounded out by celebrities including: former Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Orel Hershiser, MVP of the 1988 World Series, magician/comedian Penn Jillette, actress Shannon Elizabeth, and comedian/host Caroline Rhea, who won CELEBRITY BLACKJACK on GSN. Trying for their second titles are former champions Dr. Jeff Bernstein of WSOBJ III and Ken Einiger of WSOBJ II. Players will compete in eight preliminary matches followed by the wildcards, semi-finals and the final. The “Burger King Power Chip” and “Knockout Cards” will be in play during the 13 episodes. When a “Knockout Card” appears, the player with the lowest bankroll after the next hand will be out of the game. Each player can use their “Burger King Power Chip” once during the game to replace any card prior to going over 21. Matt Vasgersian is back as host of WSOBJ IV. In addition to previously hosting WSOBJ I, WSOBJ II and CELEBRITY BLACKJACK, he also calls the action for the “NFL on FOX" and San Diego Padres telecasts. Joanna Henderson will provide blackjack tips and other features on the show. Del Sol sending someone to WSBJ? In the 1st post in this thread I see that Casino Del Sol of Arizona is sending a player too the WSBJ. In 2006 they held a qualifier to send someone to the 2006 WSBJ but GSN could not get the Casino licenced so all the players played for the $35,000 that was to buy a seat into the 2006 WSBJ. In February 2007 I called the Casino and asked if they were going to have another qualifier and the person I talked to said no. Did anyone in Arizona hear about or play in a qualifier at Casino Del Sol for 2007 WSBJ? ...............................BlueLight
I wonder... With 5 weeks to go until the premier of WSOB 4 I began to wonder if there was going to be any “tie-in”? For example will you be able to “play along” online like in prior seasons? Has any thought been given to a possible online BJ “sponsor”? When people watch the show where can they go to play tournament BJ? Has there been any thought given to having people at home, watching the action, “sign-up” for e-mail messages for announcements to upcoming WSOB 5 – press releases? I mean UBT has an extensive e-mail list. Does WSOB? Since there is only 5 weeks remaining maybe WSOB/GSN could use the e-mail list of an online message board or an online BJ site to send out weekly e-mails touting their upcoming program? It's been a while. I saw the promo for the new season the other day. <b>Ken</b>, you don't by any chance have the schedule yet of who's going to be playing in which episodes, do you? P.S.: I didn't see any mention of Ben Mezrich or any other co-host in that announcement --- does that mean that Vasgersian is doing the commentary solo this time around?
I believe JoAnn will be co-hosting with Matt (Vasgersain) this years WSOB. I expect a schedule of shows will be posted within the next couple of weeks. The new shows should start in about a month from now.
