Had to break my vow of silence for this!

Colin, Andy, if you have Sky and you've got the "All In" sport channel they are showing WSOB now and over the rest of the weekend. My wife won't let me watch it presently (thankfully I have Sky+ so it's recording ;) ) but I see that Ken S is playing now.

    Back next week.

    Cheers

Where are we up to with WSOB?

    Reachy,

I have managed to view a few of the shows on the “All In” sports channel.

The series has been screened and repeated a couple of times before in the U.K. but on a weekly basis. I missed many of the shows and have never yet managed to watch Ken Einiger playing on the final table. Now that the shows are being screened daily I hope to catch up.

Joe Pane, Hollywood Dave and Kevin Blackwood are at the table. Are we on season 2005, and is there another series to follow?

    Andy.

    Catch up!

Seems a bit odd to be posting about WSoB 2005 but this is the first time I've seen some of these shows. It's also funny watching some of the ones that I originally watched by accident all those months ago that led me here and to the wonderful world of tournament blackjack!

Last night I watched the 2nd 1/2 of week 2 with Ken S, Russ Hamilton, A Hypnotist, Charlene Ono and a young girl (looked about 15) called Leanne who was apparently a pit boss!

Firstly, I could barely hear what Russ was saying; he's so softly spoken I had to turn the volume up to catch his bets. Secondly, how did Leanne get her place? Did she win it in a raffle? If I heard correctly that was the 1st tournament she had ever played in. How can a complete and utter TBJ novice get to play on a televised table at an event like that? At least the UBT internet winners had to win a game of TBJ to get their places even if they hadn't played before that point. Of course the funny thing is that Leanne won the table but it's fairly clear that she didn't have a clue what was going on. OK, maybe that's a bit harsh, but you know what I'm saying. Incidentally does she play much now? Has she established herself as fixture on the tournament circuit?

Aside from that I found it thoroughly entertaining stuff and I can't wait to watch the other episodes (in full) tonight! Next up Joe, Hollywood and Kevin Blackwood, should be fun!

    Cheers

No, I haven't heard of Leanne playing anything since WSOB 2005. How did she get on? Well, being young and attractive pretty much covers that one.

Be sure to catch the next show. That JoeP, Hollywood, Kevin Blackwood showdown is one of my all-time favorite TV tournaments. It's very well-played.

Did you fall down the slippery slope and also break your vows of poverty and celibacy.

    If only...

I've been trying to break my vows of poverty for many years now with little success. As for the celibacy, well let's just say Mrs Reachy has CHS (Chronic Headache Syndrome).

My vow of silence on the other hand is up. I said a week and a week it was. I had a momentary lapse but that was for the greater good, hence this thread started last night.

    Service has been resumed....

    The age of aquarius

Watched a couple more episodes last night and had an entertaining evening. First up was the Joep/HD/Kevin B match up which was, as promised, an excellent game. I must watch it again and take notes. Katya Underhill had pretty grim luck and I don't remember much about Mr Celine Dion's play other than I think it was nothing special (let me guess, was Celine playing the G Nugg that night?) Couple of other points. What in the name of all that is good, decent and tasteful was Dave Stann wearing leg-warmers on his arms for? And with skulls on!!! It's like he jumped in his sisters laundry basket in 1985 when she was going through her Pirate/New Romantic/Olivia Newton-John phase and wore what stuck to him. The other point of note was that Dave obviously really didn't like it when Joe started smacking him on that last hand. I think he may have bottled it ;). Anyway enough of the HD baiting, it was an excellent game and I'm sure I can learn a lot from it.

The other game I watched was the Tamburin/Blaine/Nancy/Kami/Konik match and the quality was more variable. I was suprised at how bad I thought Henry Tamburin played and Michael Konik went for it and busted out. Would we call him a wildcatter now? The others played better and Kami has obviously got some skills. When I first tuned in I thought that Kevin Blackwood was playing another game; him and Night Train look very similar and they could almost be brothers.

My overall impressions so far are that there is a wide variation in the quality of players. The skilled players stand out, even though they don't always win. Things are different now though aren't they? You don't just have to know someone who knows someone, or look good in a dress to get an invite do you?

The other general impression I've got is that Blackjack and hair styling obviously don't mix, not in a good way anyway :D. OK, OK, not everybody has bad hair but there is a majority. Did they shoot all the good hairdressers in Vegas?

Incidentally, I have attached a picture of my own hair which I would like to submit to the organisers of the WSoB 2007 and wondered when I could have my entry confirmed.

    Cheers

    Chew cup!

Watched both semis last night and I wanted to know what a "chew cup" is? Whatever they are I'm not going to drink out of one after Big Tex has finished with it!

Leann bombed out as I expected her to do. Luck and look(s) can only get you so far.

Final tonight, should be fun. Is this when we see the famous yellow jacket from Ken E?

    Cheers

PS. Not heard back from WSoB 2007 re: my entry next year. Is my hair too good?

I watched a show a few nights ago when Rick Blaine was playing.

Does he really look like that or was he in disguise?

    Andy.
