Selected players for the 2006 WSOB should be called by this Friday. So far the only players on the show (that I heard about) are those who won their seat at one of the WSOB qualifiers and the two seats given away from AOL. I am guessing from earlier posts that around 25 or so seats were awarded through those qualifiers and AOL. If this is correct then there should be 15 seats to be filled almost double the chances as I first though (only 8 seats is what I first heard). I am hoping like hell to be one of the lucky few contacted by GSN, but even if I'm not I appreciate (we all should) what GSN has done for blackjack. They brought tournament BJ to TV and offering big cash prizes. This year they will be filming the WSOB at the Las Vegas Hilton where Jimmy Wike (another one I appreciate, now with Caesars LV) first started the million BJ tournaments. This year GSN offered open qualifiers for any and all to win a seat. Which is what everybody has been asking for. There were problems at a few casinos and the information on the qualifiers were not the best, but at least they were willing to put out $50,000 per seat putting on these tournaments for us. Remember this is just the first year for them to try this. Hopefully the tournaments grow bigger and are run better next year. The WSOB has doubled in prize money every year from $250,000 to $1,000,000 this year. So even if I (or any of us) don't make it on the show we all had a chance to win a seat this year and I just hope that more places will start hosting open BJ tournaments with chances at large cash prizes because of the WSOB.
Getting Ready! I think GSN are trying their best to create a solid show by looking at every angle of the Blackjack Community and the World Series of Blackack. Just to have the opportunity to APPLY to be on the WSOB was an honor. I'm greateful because I was actually going to go to Arizona but that particular casino did not get final approval to be a WSOB Qualifier (whew). As we all should realize, the WSOB is just the beginning of many opportunities and adventures each one of us can and will take this year. Hopefully my phone will ring within the next two (2) days, I'm available GSN 24 hours! Sidekick
I couldn't agree more, I am happy I am even being considered. I have traveled to a qualifier at the UTE Mountain casino & Casino Del Sol.... unfortunately did not qualify at UTE.... and now we know Casino Del Sol did not have the seat as a prize.... I was hoping to win my way in but now I have to hope I am chosen.....Nice thing about being in Arizona, I can be in Las Vegas on a moments notice......If I am not one of the fortunate one's chosen.... Good Luck to those that are selected.... I will be at the Pioneer in Laughlin March 2-5 unless I get to be in the BIG SHOW!!!!!!!
Thank You. Thank you for the information. I too, am grateful to even be considered and wish everyone the best. Take Care Capt.
I was on the road when the video request came through so I didn't submit one but, instead, directed them to where they could find footage of me. As a result, I'm not sure what the protocol for the return of the videos was/is. I seem to recall that they would not be returned. Is that accurate?
Video Question Just wondered if any European players had sent in video’s as I believe the compatibility and format of tape in the USA is different to ours. I’m sure a TV company would be able to sort this out but you never know. Any techs on here know the answer? Andy
No you can't! Sorry Andy we told them you couldn't play, no one from England was allowed. Just kidding....LOL Actually I bet they would have loved a player from Europe coming over just to play in their tournament.
TX tourplayer was spot on Rick may have joked on his post but I believe he was totally correct when he said that the TV Company would have liked entries from European players for WSOB. Because the network is now selling the show to other countries it would make sense for them to bring in a few different nationalities. I don’t know if anyone from overseas did send in a video but if not it was a golden opportunity lost. As for myself, I didn’t because I have no live tournament experience and know my limitations. However, some of the Global German players have been gaining live experience by playing in land tournaments in Lintz Austria and are highly rated by the senior players on here i.e. Sunshine and Selecti/o. Good luck all Andy
I agree Andy I joked at first, but like I said I think ANYONE willing to come over from Europe would have been a shoe in for WSOB.
