It's finally official. Mentioned in the AOL/GSN press release, the finals of WSOB 2006 will be filmed at the Las Vegas Hilton. Filming will take place from late February through early March.
Here's another press release, this time from GSN: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/01-13-2006/0004248495&EDATE=
No Ho-Chunk mention I think its interesting to note that the Ho-Chunk was not mentioned in the GSN press release. I think it was the only casino that originally stated that they had 3 seats up for grabs. Now those seats are in limbo.
Ute Mountain also had 3 seats from day one, and they're still giving theirs away! Two down, one to go.
Hey toolman1, Did you get your $1200 back from the "CHUNK" I got my $400 back today by certified mail! Billy C
Hilton That GSN letter says "As the home of the competition the Las Vegas Hilton will also send their top players to compete in the tournament". How are they getting these players? Are they having tournaments to decide who gets the seats or is it for their high rollers? How many seats does the Hilton get?
Refund Nothing to do with the Hilton, but to respond to Billy C: 1,200? I wish they would make a mistake like that!
VIP Seats The Hilton will be giving their seat to their VIP players.Trust me on this the VIP players who are given the seats will not be tournament players. The Hilton is in a unofficial war with tournament players.
If its War they want... ...then its war they'll get. That just means its up to every true pro who makes it through to the taping to make sure the 'Chris Moneymaker' factor doesn't happen here -- a pro's gotta take home the trophy in 2006. 'nuff said. -hd.
Please Its not often that I agree with Hollywood but this is one rare case where I do.Please let a pro win the 2006 WSOB we can do more with the title than anyone else could.Plus it will piss off the Hilton and how could you not want that to happen.
Pro winner I agree with Hollywood and Joep, I sure hope a pro wins the 2006 WSOB title, but the way it has been going at the qualifiers it is looking like some kid who doubles hard 15's and 12's for no apparent reason and gets the one card he needs to make 21 will probably pull off a lucky win. Some of their play is unbelieveably lucky, but it will make good television if their luck holds out. Let's just hope that the cards don't favor those who rely solely on luck. Pat
Pro Winner Ptaylor is correct about the play at the qualifiers, just look what happened in Tulsa last weekend.
Please stop using the term "Pro's"! Take away WSOB and UBT and how many tournaments around the country have been won by "PRO'S" or even members of this site or any BJ site? Last year I can think of only a few that won major blackjack tournaments: 1. Sam Vaughan winning the LV Hilton Million 2. S. Yama - winning 3. LHENRYC winning the Grand in Tunica 4. Michael K. - winning the Aladdian 5. Norm S. - winning the Aladdian 6. Vince C. - winning the Canadain Masters (back to back) * Please forgive me if I left anyone off this list. That is only 6 players from this site of over 3,600 members that won major BJ events last year. Two of those I know don't concider themselves "Pro's" and three of them were VIP invite tournaments and not open events. Maybe it is just me, but I feel a "Pro" is someone that make's their living off whatever they are a "Pro" at. I am interested, does anyone here know of just one person that make's their living from blackjack tournaments? Not a professional gambler or tournament player (all the games), but just from BJ tournaments? I know several "Pro" gamblers, but since I started playing BJ tournaments back in 1985 I have never meet a "Pro" BJ tournament player. Players want to be known as "Pro's" and then wonder why the casinos don't want them playing at their casinos. We talk about how weak most of the casino marketing staffs are and when they hear "Pro" they just freakout and start banning players so why do it? Now there are several GREAT players around that have an advantage over most. They know what to do and how to take advantage of certain situations, but if they don't get the cards or a little lucky they can't win, that is just the nature of tournament BJ. Of course this is just my opinion, what do ya'll think?
Substitute for term "pro" We could use the term "top player" or "strong player" or "expert." We should avoid using terminology that casino personnel react to like a racial slur, such as "pro" or "advantage player." Here's one: "BJT'er" :1st:
LV Hilton Deception After I read the GSN Press Release, I called the Hilton. First, they denied that there was a final arrangement to host the finals. Then, they nevertheless confirmed that their "seats" would be reserved for high rollers. When I asked about whether those seats would be determined in some tournament format, or just given away, I was simply advised that I would not be able to compete at that level. My appeal to them to recognize my 7th place finish at their last $1 million tournament cut no ice either. I also called Barona after I saw them listed. I was told that I could not participate in their tournament, since I was not a "platinum" card member. Then, I nevertheless received an invitation from them in the mail! I'd be happy to win and piss off the Hilton on behalf of this site's members
How about SEASONED PLAYER TXtourplayer: I basically agree with what you said about using the word "pro". Lately, I've started using the term "SEASONED PLAYER" instead of "pro". To me that sounds better, is more descriptive, and less intimidating. Besides, in a few years I may be able to reach the status of a lower level "SEASONED PLAYER" but I'll never be a "pro".
Yep Bradley, Yep, I'm sure you remember him. That was the craziest final table. Between him and that girl who did the imitation of Hollywood, you didn't have a chance. Pat
Talking She did a good job of giving a running commentary on her play and telling everyone else what they needed to do. She kept the tables she played at entertained. I would not put her in the same class as Hollywood.
