I hope this event doesn't give me the first opportunity to use the new "Cancel" button I worked on yesterday. With a hurricane warning in place for Biloxi, I suggest that everyone watch the news coverage to see how this develops.
This event was not cancelled, but it is poorly attended with only 165 players. Part of that is due to the storm threat causing players to cancel, and part is due to the reduction in prize pool compared to previous events. They changed the format to complete the tournament in one day today instead of over two days.
Well, there were 3 BJTs that said they were going to be there. Did anyone have any success? Ken's comment about the number of players and The Professional's on format is helpful in my opinion. This is probably something we should do more of especially for places that have multiple tournaments over times. It is not uncommon for the casino to have a similar format for their tournaments. For someone who might contemplate going to a tournament (with travel expenses, buy-in, rebuy, etc.), the info could make their decision more informed.
I know neither me nor Moses made any progress, as we were eliminated at the same rebuy table. As for the format, I assume the change from 2-advance to 1-advance was part of the accelerated format due to low attendance. I bet the next event will be back to 2-advance. That is, assuming that the lower prize pool doesn't kill off attendance permanently!
I heard a lot of people complaining that the fee was the same but the prize was lower. Unless they get back the prize to 100K this event will die. They had a good thing going and they seem to mess with it. Last time they had over 400, this time was down to 165.
Apparently the storm threat was a big part of it. The Beau had very low attendance as well. I think every first round table today had only 3 players. And I still can't seem to win a table, even with only two opponents. It is ironic that the potential storm caused so many people to change their schedule. Today was an absolutely perfect weather day in Biloxi.
I think for IP it was both the prize pool and the storm. For the Beau it is hard for many people to play on weekdays particularly for out of town players.
