An aside here, don't know whether or not you've followed other activity here today but a longtime tourney friend from CA died unexpectedly yesterday. Lowell Strait was a well liked big guy (6-6 or more) and learning that today has been a downer.
I'm sure all others here that knew the man would concur. He was MUCH fun!
RIP Lowell!!!

edit: simply because of his size, Lowell could look intimidating but you didn't need to talk with him more than a few seconds to change from any perceived fear to an instant liking of the guy.

 

Wish I could make this one!!!!! I've had great luck in OK and would love to go back. Huge facilities improvement at work so it's 12+ hour days thru next week, can't make this one. Very best of luck to all who venture there, especially to Cindy in that she has a successful event and can continue to host more in the future.

 

Good morning Billy. I hope the tables are being good to you on your trip. I never met Lowell but I have "known of" him for years. Friends have mentioned him in conversations and he's showed up as an addressee on many an email I was sent by friends of his. One of those called me Tuesday night and told me of the text he received from Lowell's wife and how saddened he was to receive the sudden news. One of the things I enjoy most about playing Blackjack tournaments has been the ever growing number of friends I have made, competing with, sometimes breaking bread with. There are so many really good folks who follow these tournaments. From all the good things I have heard about Mr. Strait, before and after his death, I regret that I didn't have the opportunity to meet him. May he rest in peace.

Can you (or others) recommend a Kansas City casino stop that isn't far off I35 (435)?

 

Yes, I think I can. It's been almost two years since I was able to stop in there but at Harrahs there was a small "high limits" room, just at the edge of the main blackjack table floor area. I was just through KCMO week before last and regretted that I couldn't stop because I always had good sessions at the $25 tables there back when I regularly passed through town. It's maybe 5 minutes off I-435. Don't be tempted to get back on I-35 when you leave. Hit it wrong and it can add an hour to you trip. Good luck!

Concur with Harrahs KC. Only a small amount of play gets comps and return offers including free night stays. Helps too if you re a current system Harrahs playa .GPS in and out and you're good to go.

 

BJT site was well represented on the final table today. East Texas Pro took 1st place honors, I finished 3rd, Pitch Man 5th and his traveling buddy 7th. Also delta duke made the semis before bad luck got him.
Cindy, Kim and the rest of the staff did a superb job for a first ever tourney.
