Thanks. I think you will have to see the drawing drum with the tickets for yourself to know what I mean :)
I played VP there for 2 h to deposit one ticket and saw a guy deposing 200 ticket.

If that is the case, then I apologize for my misunderstanding. This is a major point that was not clear to me because I saw everyone trying to save the Mulligan to a later round.

No apology necessary! What you probably saw was players simply not ever using their "Mulligan", which happens not infrequently, so at the end of a round the Mulligan was still on the table in front of them.

Thanks for the clarification. In this case, it would then useful to try to use it at least once per rounds. I was wondering if anyone had sort of guidelines regarding % of important in the hand when replacing the last dealt card with the next card. Of course the use can be dictated by size of bet and other factors but some hands lend themselves to this type of analysis. For example, 12 (10 and 2) can benefit much more than 12 (6 and 6).

Exactly. One important point is that when replacing one of the first 2 cards dealt, keeping a 10 or Ace, if your replacement card is an Ace or 10, respectively, it is considered a blackjack... not just 21.

I'm pretty sure when I played at the Hilton tournaments in the past, you paid once for the Mulligan and used it every round (use it or not). I agree, this is a must purchase!

Thanks Cadilac Tim for confirming. This confirms also the common wisdom to know the rules of the tournament in great detail. For example, there was nothing in the written rules about surrender. Some people playing in the early rounds did not know that rule was allowed.

Tim is right, back when they had the 100K "Suited Blackjack" BJT's, you bought a Mulligan and it was good one time in every round. It might be wise to obtain confirmation that this has not changed since they scrapped that tournament and now have the current version because it would, indeed, make a $30K tournament crazy-expensive to pay $50 before every round.

A few years ago, I started a thread on mulligan play in which I posted strategies for using the mulligan for achieving various tournament goals. Have a look at

    https://www.blackjacktournaments.com/threads/mulligan-strategy.7505/

You'll find the links to the strategy tables further down in the thread. When I began the thread, I didn't have any place to post them and they were too large to post here.

Those were the days LeftNut! I played in several at the Hilton and only paid for one as you got a free entry with a suited bj on table play!

How right you are Pro, I always pour through the rules as it can definitely give you an edge. I love the surrender option, it's pretty rare but welcome for sure!

So,Dakota. Could one use the Mulligan to change a double down card? And do they allow doubling a BJ. Going to overstay my welcome. Answer if you choose:
Starting bankroll. Min/max bets. How many rounds.

Yes, you can use the Mulligan to change a double down card. I think they allow doubling on BJ but not 100% certain. Starting bankroll $5000. Min 100, Max 2500. 18 rounds. Count chips after 15 rounds. I think semi and finals have more rounds may be 25.

After all of this good Westgate "Mulligan" discussion, there had better be several of us at the final table. Leave room for Rookie789.

Just to be complete about there rules, they use CSM. Cards are put back in the machine about 1 or 1/2 deck intervals.

Dakota: Won't have to save a space for Rookie. That old goat herder will bully his way to the final table.

Orleans event was poorly attended. 102 original entries resulted in a dramatic purse reduction (1st was down from 15 to 10k)
Nice to see fellow BJT members Rookie 789 and Dakota there. None of us placed.

I've been invited to this tournament a number of times. I usually play my BJ at the Orleans. I spend around 50% of my playing time at the #10.00 minimum bet tables; 25% at the $5.00 minimum tables, and the remaining 25% at the $25.00 minimum tables. Usually play between 6-8 hours a day.
