Lucky U You're lucky Barney because you're right - I got the low down  Problem was we didn't know which one you'd look better wearing!
I was just posting information... Ken called me on his way to the airport so I could post the winners. As far as Wild cards are concerned I personally think there is a place for them: 1) They assure that tables will have equal amount of players per tables for each of the later rounds. 2) Allows players an extra chance if they bust out early, they are also good at keeping players in the casino. 3) Now I don't care for large amounts of Wild cards, however Wild cards as needed are a good thing. I just don't see the sence of playing a round and re-buys eliminating players only to Wild card most of them back in. Also I think Wild cards should be limited to one player per tournament, (this is just a personally opinion), but I have no problem with them if that is the rule for everyone.
UBT live games and wildcards The offer of wildcards makes me much more interested in going to an event at Barona. The problem with UB EBJ is its a game of pain and bad beats via bad luck avenues secret bet and elimination hands. If a player is to travel to Barona we have a very good chance of being eliminated very early at a rate of 2/7 to a "normal" 2/5 or 2/6 in most other tournaments and those "normal" typically offer rebuys and wildcards. At the time of early elimination we say to ourselves "what the hell am I doing here was it worth it?" Because there are no rebuys we are left in the cold. At least the wildcard gives some hope. In round 1 over 70% of players will be eliminated completely out if no rebuy or wildcard and that would stink leaving a bad taste in our mouths. It stinks, IMO, the final table was all wildcards lets hope that wont be seen often, but keep them coming. They add some value to the game.
Kerfuffle It would seem that not everybody was happy about the wildcard process over at Barona http://forums.lasvegasadvisor.com/messageview.cfm?catid=48&threadid=224995 Cheers Reachy
Field Marshall Lord Reachy: WILDCARDS: Tourneys that have them state up front how they'll be conducted. Either into second round only, or as TX stated to fill spots at later rounds, or to keep folks around. Either way someone runs a Wild Card, I have no problem,(even if someone gets wild carded three times) cause as an eliminated player you have an equal chance of being that Wild Card. If you play it out on your own, so much the better. On an etheral level, sometimes the wild carding makes up for the bad beats, bad Karma from previous attempts. It's either Wild Cards, or no Wild Cards. Or Multiple Wild Cards. But as long as it's stated up front, NO PROBLEM.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen I still think running it as a league would solve a lot of these problems. Cheers Reachy
It is really very simple.....drawing for spots is for two reasons... 1. They fill spots for tables that are uneven in rounds to be played..... most of the time the sponsors of the tournament don't know exactly how many players will show up to play, so it is difficult to arrange the format for the ones that do attend. 2. Wild cards keep a great number of patrons at the establisment for the remainder of the tournament, whether the next day or just a few hours, until the final drawing takes place, thus increasing the chance that some or most will play/lose money in the casino....very simple/very easy... I don't remember the exact figures, but the final table for the last Hilton Million Dollar BJ Tournament had a number of wild card winners..4 or 5...I think... I played at the Stardust in a live money event.....drawn in twice...that would have cost me $3,100 to play, $350 entry fee BTW, had I not made money in the first two rounds, in which I didn't advance. How would you like to lose ten times the entry fee!!!!!! almost happened....
Is there really that much of a difference as to when you are eliminated. It could be on hand 8 or 16 or 25 or just eliminated in a regular old fashion format. You still are OUT.I would think that the lead is much more important as in a UBT format on the last 5 hands you may have only to beat 1 player to advance to the next round . So that in itself has a lot of value. In a regular format you may still have to beat 4 or 5 players on the last hand to advance to the next round. My vote is to play the UBT format head and shoulders over any other pre-historic format. Wild cards are equal to all players but I personally would like to see them go away.
"pre-historic"??? Gees, that's kind of harsh. How about "traditional" since there are probably thousands of "traditional" tournaments played across the country at B&M casinos for every UBT event played in a B&M casino?
