Yep Billy I've seen it many time's. Bottomline is until someone complain's the city/state won't do anything to them.

Let's face it, there are illegal poker, blackjack, dice games and bookies all over the world. Illegal gambling has been around forever, at least this is making some money for charity, but it is being done illegally.

I'd love to be able to host events like Mainevent John here in Texas, but it isn't worth the chance of me going to jail. Let me tell you I could use the money now as well, but again just not worth it to me for what it might cost me.

I have hosted satellite tournaments for the Las Vegas Hilton's Million Dollar Blackjack Tournament (the ONLY non casino allowed to host these satellites for them) and hosted several blackjack and poker tournaments here in Texas (ALL LEGALLY). There are way's to do so, just they don't pay as much to the promoter (if anything). This is where the problems start, promoter's start changing things so they can increase their profit's and that is normally where they start breaking the law. Just something little like allowing add-on's is illegal.

In Texas I hosted a poker tournament and awarded $5,000 in prize money and it was 100% legal (Vice and T.A.B.C were on premises). Now if I had offered an add-on for $5 per person it would have become illegal. Just something a simple as that make's the difference in legal or illegal event.

Nice job of research TXtourplayer :). Don't expect MainEventJohn to respond. His last log-in was Sept. 6 (2 months ago) and that was only 4 days after he became a member on this site. I think we've heard the last of him.

    Main Event John

I talked to him a few weeks ago. I had signed up for the blackjack tournament that was going to be held in Buffalo Grove. I called the main number to see how many people normally show up for these tournaments, and got hold of John. He said that I was the first person who had ever signed up for the blackjack tournament. John seemed like a nice enough guy, he said that these events were mostly poker, but he was trying to get blackjack tournaments going too, and that was why he posted the notice on this site.

I'm sure John is a very nice guy, but he needs to check on what he is promoting before involving others. If he held an event and it was busted for being illegal, everybody playing would also go down as well.
From what I read about the Ill. gaming act it sounds like even his poker tournaments he is running are exceeding those approved by the state (just going by one of his earlier posts stating $400).

I wish him and anyone well trying to promote good tournaments, but I will warn everyone when I see problems. We're all adults here and can make up our own minds if we want to go play or not after you've been warned.
