Have you considered weekly instead of monthly qualifiers? Joep: First I want to thank you for your efforts to keep the MDBJ alive. Every BJ player should give you a round of applause. I am relatively new to this web site and have been playing tournaments for about 2 years. I qualified for the MDBJIII play off so maybe I'll see you there (but I don't know who you are). My suggestion for continuing the MDBJ may initially sound off the wall but hear me out - you may find it appealing. Instead of monthly qualifiers, have weekly qualifiers that would be over in 1 day instead of the current 3 very long days that consume almost an entire stay in Vegas: 1) Entry fee = $1,000. 2) No re-buys. 3) Limit of 70 entries per week. 4) Have only 3 rounds (including the final table). 5) Preliminary round -10 tables @ 7 players = 70 players, 2 advance per table. 6) 1 wild card drawn for the semi-final round. 7) Semi-final round - 3 tables @ 7 players = 21 players, 2 advance per table. 8) 1 wild card drawn for final table. 9) Final round - 7 players, each receive prize money: 10) Prize money: 1st=$10,000 2nd=$5,000 3rd,4th,5th,6th,7th= $1,000 each Total=$20,000 11) The 6 players that won their way to the final table would be invited to the million dollar play off. 12) Qualifying rounds can be held on a weekend day or a weekday or a combination - casino preference. 13) Play offs - 6 players per week for 50 weeks = 300 players. This can be accommodated in 5 rounds of play (2 days like the current MDBJ). 14) Play offs - The prize money for the play offs to be determined by the total entry fees. I believe this format has several advantages: A) In addition to lack of proper promotion, I think the current MDBJ failure is due to the time committment a player must make. Most will come to Vegas once or twice a year. Does this player really want to spend a substantial amount of this time playing in a tournament where his chances of winning a million is about 1 in 2,000? I think not - people nowadays want things over fast - instant gratification if you will. The weekly format can be concluded in 1 day (about 5 hours with 5 tables dedicated to the tournament - a little longer with 3 or 4 tables) or can be stretched out longer to keep the players in the casino). B) Some people can't schedule a Vegas trip to coinside with 1 of 12 qualifying tournaments. But if there were 50, no problem. C) Wild cards - I don't like them either but from the casino's point of view they do keep the players in the casino longer. My format only allows 2 wild cards in each weekly qualifier. D) No re-buys. We really do not want "wild man" players. E) More potential players. Up to 70 players per week for 50 weeks = 3,500 potential players - a $2,500,000 prize pool (after subtracting the $1,000,000 paid out in weekly prizes). What a great 1st prize potential! Also, this would attract some "impulse players" - they did not come to Vegas to play in a tournament but saw the promotion material or signs and decided to play since the time committment is not great but the prize is. F) The casino would not have to commit a large space or large personnal to the weekly qualifiers. All things considered, I believe this format can fly but of course it is only a suggestion. Thanks again for your efforts and I hope you succeed.
