I'm putting my June plans on hold now until I hear how things turn out in April. You all can come to the Fallsview on April 24 instead and tell Ron that you did!
I am not able to attend the banquet or the April tournament. I will be very interested to hear your reports after talking to this new guy from LV.
Heard that there is currently only 19 players signed up for the SOO tourney which occurs in less than two weeks. Also heard the banquet prizes where greatly reduced with most give aways being Kewadin play credits. Top give away was $500 cash! Previously this was a 5 day trip to Vegas with $500/day gambling money! (and I think they gave two trips away that year) Billy - did you get a chance to talk to the powers to be about new tourney policies? Please share when you get a chance. Thanks, Pill
Hi Pill, That's ridiculous, they're going to run Kewadin into the ground with this Fred Buro at the helm. I know many people told them to get lost when they decided to charge for rooms for the banquet. Not surprised to hear that they slashed the prizes also. Same theme as bj tourney changes. I'm one of the 19, but I'm sure I'm headed to Great Blue Heron to get my players card/sign up for Spanish after Fallsview vs driving up to the Soo for a next to nothing tournament. It's been a bad year between Meskwaki and Kewadin. I need to replace these tournaments, so I'm going to add Great Blue Heron, Westgate, and 1-2 Golden Nuggets to my schedule. It's a huge shame this guy's ruining Kewadin for us and the staff. The tourneys make them money, just plain ignorant.
Not surprisingly, the new main man didn't attend the banquet but chose instead to let Ron Neal be the fall guy. I told Ron that their tournament future is doomed unless changes are made quickly and he didn't disagree with me (how could he after only having anywhere from 6 to 19 entrants willing to enter?) They supposedly had a meeting at the Soo last night in regards to future tourney policy. I wait with baited breath to hear what was determined! Billy C
No surprise that the new main man didn't show up, guys like that make slash-and-burn business decisions then throw the underlings to the wolves as far as letting the customers know about it. When those customers vote with their feet (like what's happening to the BJT entry level) the big shots blame the underlings for not handling the situation properly. It's like removing the brakes from a vehicle then blaming the driver for the crash. I, too, will be anxiously awaiting news of the meeting mentioned by BillyC.
By the way, here's an interesting article found with a little basic Googling. "Temporary", huh??? http://www.michigangaming.com/publi...ssue-2/446-kewadin-casinos-hire-temporary-ceo
Nice! I finally convinced one of the mid-west gang to make the trek! I'm not forgetting you Cadillac, but you stated coming before I knew you
I'd love to attend Fallsview but plans which had been scuttled to allow playing at the Soo were resurrected and now I'm committed to those. If Fallsview wasn't so hard-headed about demanding that a BJT entrant have one of their slot cards in hand before accepting an entry, the plans would have been switched to Fallsview instead.
I heard from Cadillac Tim and MonkeySystem that the June event at St Ignace has been cancelled. I've updated the calendar. * sorry for the duplicate post in the Sault Ste Marie Thread. I posted there first by mistake.
I also heard that the reason for this cancellation was the abysmal sign-up rate for this past weekend's Soo BJT (no surprise there). BillyC was going, maybe he can fill in some details.....
I called Kewadin this morning with slight hope of entering June tourney and was not at all surprised when the voice mail message told me it had been cancelled. Now, we only need to be told that there won't be anything in August and September, too. I'm guessing that that will be the case. This from the outfit that was enlarging their BJ tournament offerings with the addition of 2 or 3 new events on this year's calendar. How depressing! At present, Turtle Lake, WI and 3 or 4 MN venues are all that the Midwest has for tourney options and those are all distance prohibitive for the MI people.
Hey Billy, I had that through Jonny or Keith. They said they were regrouping in the hopes of having one in August. We'll see...... Would you share some details on Turtle Lake, WI?
Thanks Billy --- Any improvement in the tournament package compared to the downgrades at earlier events this year which caused the bad turn outs?
Yes Billy, I too saw this in their recent mailer and was going to give DeAnn a call. Please tell, any change in comps and prize pool? -Pill
