Yes Yes, by last year I meant last years April event. In terms of weather no two years are always the same, if it is wet the farmers will show face and the tourney will be full. If the locals are not able to turn out it never seems to fill properly. When they have to give away seats to fill it the pool is small. With no guarantee on at least 1st place the interest wanes. Safe travel and best to all.
Up to Date 61 sign ups. 22 at full deal ($350) the rest at $200. 3 weeks to go. They of course hope to fill the event. This is as of Good Friday.
The field I noticed that the event calendar now shows 5 member entrants and I'm aware of at least that many more BJT members that will be playing in this one. The weather outlook for the area is probably conducive to more locals (farmers) entering this time too because it will likely be too wet for them to be doing field work. More entrants=bigger purse for the placers! Billy C
i wonder ????? how many played-----who were the winners----how much-----Thanks---- hope i can make it next time
Some Results 139 entered. Unlimited rebuys went on all day. !st place was 14,000 went to a guy from Nebraska. 2nd place was 6,000 went to an old local guy that should have won it but did not know how to bet it properly on the last hand. Only one lady at the final table, she finished 4th. She was a local gal. No young guys, all older guys this time. Then it was 5,000 4,000 3,000 2,000 and 1,000 more or less on each. Friday meal wasn't much, breakfasts were ok. Dealers were all very good. Not much of interest to report. I made it to the second round then got taken out on a squeaker, everyone here knows the story. See you next time.
This event is VERY good again! Thanks for the report smitty. The total purse was slightly over 31k. I thought that the casino did a very nice job. It should also be mentioned that they paid back 100% of entries and rebuy fees and the casino covered the dealer expenses too. I predict that their next one (October?) will approach the 20k for first place that they used to pay. The Brit that runs it does a very nice job and his help is top notch (including the dealers). They now use a video screen to show the complete event schedule and all table assignments, times and match-ups which is a nice touch. Delta Duke had to be the "farthest away" entrant, driving up from Mississippi. Both he and myself made the semis which was worth $200. Billy C
More incentive! Meskwaki is guaranteeing 15k for 1st place in their October 18-20th tourney. Another good thing about this event is that rebuys are only $50! Free food is very "doable" too at this event with Friday evening hor douvres, Sat. and Sun. breakfasts and $20 food voucher being included as part of tourney package. $200 paid to all semi finalists is also a nice plus. It's really nice to see Meskwaki's commitment to making their biannual events quite desirable again. Billy C
I noticed that there are 8 member attendees listed on the calendar at this point for this weekend's event at Tama and I know of several others that aren't listed. Minnesota and Wisconsin typically have a large contingent of entrants at Meskwaki so all in all, I predict a good turnout for this one with the Iowa farmers being the usual factor. If they aren't deep into harvesting crops it should be a big "field" (pun intended!)
Members here were well represented at the Tama fall tournament. I left before the finals, but understand that Billy C. took third, and Double Down Denny took second. Several other members were in the hunt, and got paid for getting to the semi-finals. Congratulations !
Yes Jonny, you're right about the results given. Thanks to all for the kudos. Meskwaki's total purse was just slightly below 35k with 15k going to 1st place, $5965 to 2nd, $4448 to third, $2980 to 4th, $2030 to 5th and $890 to 6th plus $200 going to each non advancing semifinalist. Like always, Bob Boehmer, Mike Tobias, Ken, the rest of the staff and the dealers made this a very enjoyable and well ran event. There were approximately 125 entrants. The unlimited re-buy option is always a very good purse builder for this tournament. Monkeysystem and I witnessed a participant that got bumped out in the first session make what seems like a good strategic move. Rather than purchasing a $50 re buy, he bought a second $200 "original" entry. By doing this, he was able to play right away again in the next session and (more importantly) be on a table having two advancing as compared to the one advance re buy tables. This guy had obviously done his homework! They haven't set the date yet for their next semi annual tourney but it's typically in April. I'd certainly recommend their events again to anyone, being they now guarantee 1st place prize money and pay back 100 % of entry and re buy money. The video poker offerings could certainly be better but the BJ games are very playable in both 2 and 6 deck versions. Billy C
First of all, and as always -- well done everybody! Interesting move. From what I understand, the preliminary round tables were 2 advancing from 5 or 6 players and the rebuy tables were 1 advancing from 5. So this would only be a good move if your expected advancing rate in the rebuy was 4 times worse than at a preliminary round table. Am I missing something? It sounds like there were plenty of rebuy tables played. Would it have been possible to play 4 or more? I will make it to one of these someday. It's a tough sell given number of closer events I have access to these days, especially since I've started playing events other than blackjack.
I was fortunate enough to make it on the first rebuy but I know at least 3 people that rebought at least 4 times if not 5. I haven't done the math on this but the individual that "re entered" a second time considered it to be a good value, probably factoring in his driving distance and cost to be there.

In an apparently new development, they are no longer accepting credit cards for prepayment of entries. You can sign up through their club on the website (I assume that's what was intended) and pay when you arrive.
It looks like they removed the online registration and prepayment process they had, which was similar to using Stub Hub.
