    No Max Bet

the tourneys I have played the most - Yuma (Paradise Casinos) and Golden Acorn (Campo, CA) start you with small bank roles of $200, and neither has a max bet - in Yuma - they only play 15 hands per round - which makes it worse - little time for strategy or margin for error -

both tourneys have some pretty good players - some from this site have played at Golden Acorn - but also some real bad players - who like to do the drunk all in thing -

at one table in Yuma - I was playing agressive - and ran my bankroll up to $2,200 in about 7 or 8 hands - and was FOURTH in chip count - went to counter betting and watched everyone else give back their chips in gobs - as the cards started running against the players - fun

no max bet really requires a very different type of play - especially in the end game and final hand - when half the players go all-in

changing back and forth between max bet and no max can also take some adjustment - when I play up in Laughlin - I always have to be very careful to change my play style - or I just ploppy out with playing like there's no max bet

    Good Question Toolman

As much as I've read and studied I've never seen or heard an absolute % applied to luck vs. skill in BJ tournament play. Hell, fgk42's post could have reduced the Skill vs. Luck thread content 95%. Whoops!! Now I've fallen into the same trap.

From the Dave Matthews interview. It was tongue in cheek - the two - luck and skill are so interchangable, in my opinion that I believe to be successful you've got to have skuck (skill & luck)

Since I started this much-viewed thread re the old "Luck vs. Skill" argument, I thought I'd rejuvenate it with a fresh quote from the freshly crowned UBT Champion David Matthews:

"Q: How much of your victory do you attribute to skill and how much to luck?
A: I'll go with 70% luck and 30% skill. That isn't to say that skill wasn't a huge part of it, but realistically, gambling tournaments hinge on luck. Take a look at Chris Moneymaker. He has a lot of poker skill, but was also very lucky. Show me a gambling tournament champion that didn't get lucky to win. There aren't many, if any.

In my first tournament where I qualified for the Champions event, my last four hands were blackjack, blackjack, 20, 20. In the Champions event, I was all-in twice where I had to win the hands. If the best player in the world gets a 16, and the newest amateur gets a blackjack, the amateur is going to win. Skill plays more of a role in the long run over many hands, many rounds, and many tournaments."
