    How do you tip?

My post on tipping was about casino dealers in tournaments. I don’t want you guys on here to think that the Brits are tight with their money. I tip like everyone else for bar/hotel staff and taxi drivers etc but like London Colin says it is not a matter of fact expectation in U.K. culture.

I am reassured from a previous post that the US casino staff pool their tips (Why should a twenty year old female cocktail waitress flashing her boobs earn more money than a sixty year old woman who does the same job, and works just as hard to make her living?).

I appreciate that the dealer tipping situation will not change in the US but having read the posts on this and looked at Txtourplayers sliding scale (if it’s good enough for Rick then it’s good enough for me) then I can live with it.

I know this is a basic question for the majority on here but I am going to ask it anyway.

How do you actually pass on the tip to a dealer after the tournament?

In a big tournament do you ask the organiser to deduct it out of your winnings and pass it on to the dealer?

In a small local tournament do you just throw cash onto the table or do you see the dealer afterwards?

For the uninitiated on here, what is the process of giving a tip to the dealer after the completion of the tournament?

    At the table

You always want to give any tip to the dealers at the table, either to the dealer themself or the pit boss. Any tips are to be split between all the tournament dealers and in most cases all the dealers on the floor during that shift, so they prefer no tipping on the side.

Actually the casino staff usully does not pool tips....only dealers. Waitress usually keep thier own tips..

The US system is terrible for all the reason discussed....

I think no one should should share tips...to each his own would foster a better attitude and appreciation of the importance of working to earn a tip by doing ones best to assurse the best possible experience even if someone is losing money...

I also agree that these folks are doing a fairly simple job and casinos should pay them and forget the tip system.

A good dealer simply turns over cards...adds the totals and pays or takes your chips....not rocket science ...in fact its just a step up above passing out hamburgers...certainly not deserving 75.000 year...but thats what the market is paying now so.....

If Ive won a MTT then I speak to the pit boss about spearding the love...and usually just cough up the cash ....If Im cash poor then I must cash out and return with the love....dont worry they will wait for you...lol

    Still not sure

    Tex,

So when Ken Einiger won the WSOB in 2005. He got off his seat and then started cheering and leaping around everywhere.

Are you telling me that he later went back to the table and settled up with the dealer in cash?

    Late pay...

The WSOB tournaments I & II were exceptions due to the fact that the players were not paid until 6 months later.

At this years WSOB we were paid in live casino chips right after we finished our table, then I tipped our dealer.

My point is once you receive your winnings, (at a regular tournament) you want to pay any tip at the table in front of everyone. Giving a tip to the final dealer on the side does not go over very well with the others dealers involved and could cause the dealer in question some problems.

    Now I get it

Talk about when you can’t see the wood from the trees sometimes.

It was only when I read the post by Tex that the light bulb finally illuminated in my head.

For some reason I presumed that a cheque would be paid out to the winners of a tournament. I could not understand how you could tip the dealer from the table as in a normal blackjack game if you were playing with tournament bought in chips.

I just never give it a thought that you would be paid out in cash casino chips that you could then throw over an amount for the dealer tip. Also, the reason why you should not tip away from the table as it could compromise both dealer and player.

Sorry that I was slow on the uptake, but I did get there eventually.

PS I bet Barney and fgk42 are already searching their photo files for dumb, jerk, stupid, idiot pictures etc for a reply to my posts. Don’t worry I can take it…..

    No problem Andy

There are no dumb questions, only dumb people who don't know and don't ask questions...LOL

That is why I always ask if I am not sure.
