Yes, the button rotates all along, and just continues into the last 5 hands. And, yes, you can use that information to your advantage somewhat. In my round I played a little slower as time ran out, and would have had next-to-last bet. Unfortunately, my bankroll didn't last that long. I went all-in with 4 hands to go and lost.

    Interesting strategy

    Better luck next time Ken.

It's cool. You can use football terminology in tournament blackjack, like "hurry up offense" and "running out the clock." ;)

Hurry up versus running out the clock

    Keith,

Yes it does help to try time management, but the dealer jumped me pretty bad about trying to run out the clock. Unfortunately mine backfired because I miscalculated and wound up on the button on the final hand no matter how much I tried to get to bet last. I even argued with the outcome, but they don't allow timeouts for review of plays, you just have to accept their rulings.

    :D

    Clock Management

It would be interesting to study the average amount of time a local player takes for each hand. It probably slows down a little as time is running out. What I mean by average time is actually how long a complete hand takes, divided by the number of players. You could then use this information to calculate how long you should take for each hand right from the beginning so you can manipulate the button. You'd probably want to move the button two positions to your left so you have some wiggle room in case things slow down more than average.

Here's how you could use this information:

Lets say just for discussion's sake that a hand takes exactly one minute when there are seven players at the table. Lets say the dealer takes four seconds and the players take eight seconds on average. In twenty-one minutes there will be twenty-one hands played. When the final five hands commence the button will be in the same spot it was on the first hand. If instead you want the button to be two positions right of there, then there should be nineteen hands played. Your six opponents will take 48 seconds total and the dealer will take four seconds for a total of 52 seconds per hand. 52 * 19 hands = 982 seconds. 21 minutes = 1260 seconds so you need to take a total of 278 seconds. 278/19 = 15 seconds. You should try to take an additional seven seconds to make your playing and betting decisions. Just sit and count an extra seven seconds before you push your bet out every turn. You should recalculate after about ten minutes and again after about fifteen to see if you need to make an adjustment.

The same format is used at the IP blackjack tournament where you play for 40 minutes and then 5 hands. This structure leads to players having the ability to having a say where the button will be on the final hand.I myself have used this even though I believe that players should not have this available to them. But if it is within the rules you would be foolish not to use this form of advantage play.
