Tunica MM BJ Winners - Vegas bound Two players who gained a spot for the finals in Vegas last year, won again in Tunica this past week-end. BLACKJACK REBEL and Rick (Richard ?) will be heading west in August. I sat at BJRebel's table 2nd round and watched him carefully conserve his chip count when he had reached his goal....I was very shocked to come back to watch the final table and he was high enough to win a spot. It must be payback time for all that good counseling he does for Meridian MS school children ....Good Luck in Vegas! Good to make new friends with familiar names. Toolman...you must have beat us home...glad the roads were clear. L & F
Im surprized any place still uses this Accum style....especially in a bigger money games... The style replaces skill required with more luck.. Its a game suited to ploppy play. Im not saying that to take away anything from the recent winners ...Im just surprized that any casinos still use this ploppy game in a real tournament. Ive seen it used for smaller games but I thought it was dead for a traditional bigger money tournament... Wong mentions a strat to use ....but honestly ...picking a target and then bombing is ploppy play. Its exactly right ...if you are hitting its fun and if you are not its quick....at no time is much real skill involved....some skill yes.....mostly luck though. Its a poor style to build a popular tournament on...more lottery like than skills based.
Accumulation format is actually somewhat popular. Not as popular as elimination tournaments but still popular. Accumulation format is easier for the casino to manage especially when the turnout is either more or less than the goal. I would guess that accumulation format draws a larger pool of players because the players don't conceive it as needing a lot of skill to succeed. As for skill, contrary to my joking about it being a "cross your fingers" game, accumulation format is definitely not a lottery. It does however involve different strategy than elimination format. In accumulation format one needs to have a specific plan before sitting down to play. That plan involves having an idea of what happened in earlier sessions, target calculation, consideration of starting bankroll, consideration of the maximum bet, exploiting any specific rules that affect how your target can be achieved, and finally putting it all together to know how to best achieve that target. A ploppy does none of this which is why most of the players at the final table, like elimination tournaments, are seasoned players. I played in an accumulation tournament where the scores were added together to arrive at a final count. There was no final table - high score takes home the bacon. After the tournament was over it dawned on me how, by exploiting the weakness in the rules and procedures, that if my wife and I played and re-bought several times we would have near a 75% probability of taking first place by simple parlaying the winnings and playing like one would play a live game. Unfortunately, they never held that format again. The point is that I developed a simple effective plan that would work unlike a typical ploppy who has no plan and just flies by the seat of his pants.
Accumulation or Hybrid format? Lots of the time players confuse a Hybrid format with a accumulation format. The Hybrid format is where the first two rounds are an accumulative format where the top 12, 18, 36 (or whatever the amount maybe) advance into an elimination format for the semifinal and final round of play. An accumulative format is one where players add each rounds totals from multiple rounds, (normally two to three rounds) with the highest total winning the tournament. Depending on the location and cost of all the different blackjack formats is what makes me decide on which ones to play in. I enjoy trying all types of blackjack tournaments formats, but I still prefer the regular old fashion elimination style the best. I believe it offers the most strategic style of play and eliminatates more of the luck factor.
I thought i had a hell of a plan. It just didnt include 13's and 14's working on that now. Thats funny i played the tournament then went to the tables and won my entry fee back.
Very True!!!!!! Toolman is right on target with this post. I have posted some of the worst rounds I have ever had, you play long enough and we all get them.
